Um, not sure how to be diplomatic about this - but the Mothballs are driving me freakin' crazy!
It is 2011. Who, might I ask, buys mothballs any more?
Well, apparently someone in my building, in one of the other apartments quite close to mine, too! If you are a long-time follower of this blog then you know I have been waging a low-grade mothball battle in my apartment building for quite a while now. Unfortunately, over the past few months the sickening smell has only worsened. But we may be coming to a turning point, an end to the mothball stalemate as I believe one of the suspect apartments recently became unoccupied and not necessarily through the choice of the rather long-term occupant (if you get my drift.)
In any case, I am off to the store to buy some Glade or something. And in the meantime, for all you mothball owners out there, please...please.... this is 2011.. I beg of you... Please go and invest in some cedar chips for your closets instead! They do exactly the same thing, but without the stomach-turning, lung-scorching side affects.
4:02 P.M. Update:
Well, I have two Glades now installed in the affected area. My apartment is rapidly beginning to smell like a French brothel. But is is indeed better than the mothballs. And good God, what a to-do they have made over these air fresheners in the, oh, 25 years or so since the last time I bought one! You have to plug them in and put batteries on them and this and that. Some even just activate when you walk by them thanks to motion sensors! Ridiculous! I bought the one you just pull open and it seems to be working just fine.

Another exclusive for ya, Drakester: The Marshals have taken over the fruit store. They forced open the gates around 12:30. And there's nobody in that new candy store.
ReplyDeleteI was in Emily's today and there was another customer in there when I walked in -- and it was an adult no less. Check out the photos from my earlier post. This new place is loved by local kids already. it's a great store. If there is nobody in it when you walk by, maybe you should go in it yourself and buy something and support your local retailers. Or do you not live in Forest Hills?
ReplyDeleteDid Emily's get more candy? I was embarrassed when I went in and left empty handed because it was mostly M&Ms and jellybeans. Two things, I'm not really keen on.

ReplyDeleteI don't live in FH anymore, but i work there, and my GF lives there, so i'm always around. I will go in, but it looks like -- and i could be dead wrong -- this is candy you can get at Rite Aid or yr local candy store. But i'll check it out and possibly purchase some Pez. Possibly.

ReplyDeleteI was there a short while ago and I beginning to think I must stop following this blog as it members seem to be Anti Emily's for the sake of being mean spirited.
ReplyDeleteThe store stocks Tru-Blood, Stay-Puft Marshmallows how are they Jelly Beans. They have an ok assortment of Jelly Beans and only 5 or 6 colors of M&Ms. Cricket Lollipops, Tequila Worm pops, Truffles, etc.
So, this blog is history as non worth while
I am a big fan of this blog, and appreciate how it provides residents of FH with local information. I do not see how anyone here is being "Anti Emily's" or "mean spirited" at all. I believe people are just honestly expressing their opinions.
ReplyDeleteAs I stated elsewhere, Emily's would benefit by selling quality chocolates and candies that cannot be easily found in any chain stores, BUT they must lower their prices as well. I think it is important to remember that the majority of people living in FH are middle-class at best, and have enough struggles with the rising cost of food, rent/maintenance, etc. Candy is a luxury, not a necessity, and so the prices must be very affordable for people to be able to buy it.
