I was reading all the comments about Buffalo Wild Wings. Personally, I think the former Staples location is fine for it. I'm not very excited about another sports bar coming into FoHi, though I do love my chicken wings, so I'm looking forward to that part of it. But if they're going to open a place like this somewhere in FoHi, then this really is the perfect spot. 71st/Continental, especially near the subway station, is already kinda downscale and grimy. This, if anything, should improve that a little bit since it's a big restaurant chain.
Agreed 100%.
ReplyDeleteI really wish Forest Hills would stop catering to the idea that we need more subpar restaurants to do little more than attract undesirable people to come to our neighborhood. What a waste!
ReplyDeleteAgreed with the second comment. I'm heading out to Tuscan Hills for dinner now, which will be followed by an after dinner glass of wine at Keuka Kafe. Two wonderful additions to our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThese are the types of restaurants we need to see to help revitalize Forest Hills. I find the addition of Buffalo Wild Wings highly disappointing (and having gone to school in Buffalo, I will acknowledge that I'm a huge wing fan myself!!).
I agree...a second floor space is not conducive to an independent restaurant or store. You need a place people already know about and will seek out. This works as well as anything would.
ReplyDeletei agree with susan......adding more oversized franchises cheapens the quality of FH. BUT if landlords are jacking up the price of rent and know these big names can pay up, there's no stopping that unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteRetail is doing very poorly in this economy. Not surprised Staples left. Food is the only thing that people are still willing to go out of their homes for. Everything else can be done online.
ReplyDeleteOutback Steakhouse?
DeleteWhat about Outback?
Deletegood grief no more chains
DeleteUgh - that place is awful. Now a real steakhouse would not be a bad thing....
DeleteWe already have one - "Aged" - even though I hear it is mediocre.
DeleteIt is. Though i love their short rib appetizer and burger. everyone else was meh for me.
DeleteSurprised to see the Italian place on yellowstone Da Silvana closed. Heard another restaurant is coming in but no idea what type.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised at all. Area is full of older people and the restaurant likely didn't see a lot of business.
ReplyDeleteIn all my years, I think old people were the only ones that I have ever seen in there. If the place was ever crowded, it was because it was closed for a private party. I don't know how true this lis, but I was told years ago that DaSilvana was set up by the family that owns Alberto's to keep some pesky relatives busy.
DeleteI loved DaSilvana and we are sad to see it close. however, I heard they moved out to Long Island. don't know where yet but I'll find out
DeleteThis is terrible news. Such a great place to eat and we loved the fact it was only around the corner from our apartment. Had so many great Friday date nights there! :(
Deletewhat if they put a Planet Fitness in the old Staples location? It would be nice to have an affordable gym to go to in the area.
ReplyDeleteThis would have been a great addition, as there is only one gym right now and it's overpriced NYSC (if you are a man).
DeleteWish there was a Crunch here. Planet Fitness is meh. And I hate NYSC.
DeleteThe boxing gym was rejected for Austin Street, unclear if they can modify permits to make it happen and Staples is becoming a Buffalo Wild Wings assuming approvals go through.
ReplyDeleteHow was it rejected? Theres signs already up inside the space
DeleteThe sign in the front is already up and illuminated tho.
DeletePermits denied usage for a boxing gym the last I saw. Perhaps it changed.
ReplyDeleteYou must be thinking of a different location. It appears that Austin street may be opening soon.?
ReplyDeletei spoke to the owner just the other day. They expected an objection from the city - it's a process they have to follow and that's what the whole delay is all about, so he said. He thinks they'll be good for spring.
