A reader contacted me today about what she says is a string of car break-ins in the Forest Hills area. Yesterday she found her car parked on Kew Forest Lane with the passenger window broken. She says only the ash tray was taken and and that they went through the glove compartment and left everything on the seat. And then last night she saw another car parked around the block (on 77 Ave.) with the driver's window broken. And then this morning a neighbor told her that one day last week the car parked in front of her's on Queens Blvd. also had the passenger window broken into overnight. She wanted to publicize this string of car break-ins in the hopes that her neighbors don't leave any valuables in their cars.
I'm sure many of you have noticed the Police Command Center parked on 71st/Continental (pictured). Not sure if it is because of these break-ins. But I've seen some reports of burglaries down near Metropolitan Ave. and then there of course was the attempted rape in Forest Park (they have not yet caught the perpetrator in that case.)

Lots of car vandalism in Forest Hills Gardens as well. My car window was smashed even though I had no items on the seat and no valuables in the car. Beginning to think it's just kids breaking windows for the fun of it.
ReplyDeleteCar break ins along 112 St near Jewel Av too.
ReplyDeleteOur super's car was stolen in the neighborhood, but was recovered by the police in Yonkers due to its lojack system. Minimal damage.
ReplyDeleteBunch of low class thugs in the neighborhood which is getting worse but citizens gun rights are being taken away here.
ReplyDeleteIf we had more guns, these guys would not around here and we would have more upward mobility in the nation.
if there were more guns they would surely have them too
DeleteCar thefts would go down if the economy was better with more REAL jobs. And if gun rights were on hand so that any attempted theft would be thwarted just by waiving a gun or shooting the thieves. They need to learn they will suffer consequences, not a weak political system in the courts where they will get out on the street again.
ReplyDeleteThere is no real economy in Forest Hills proper.
ReplyDeletei had my car window smashed twice in the last 7yrs living in fh...
ReplyDeleteI leave my cars unlocked all the time in front of my house or when in the driveway. Two years ago, someone took pocket change out of the SUV's ashtray and left my bag of TaylorMade clubs in the back! Thieves are generally stupid people and thus lack knowledge to see real value. About a year after moving to FH someone broke into my house and stole crap; the following are examples of what was taken & what was left. Stolen: 32" tube style television; Left: 2 month old trading platform w/4 flat panel monitors. Stolen: Cheap "Guess", Timex and Swatch(2) watches; Left: IWC, Omega & Tag Heuer. Stolen: Canon digital camera; Left: Hasselblad 500.
ReplyDeleteNot sure easy access to guns is the answer, since most guns involved in a crime were stolen to begin with. Not to mention, 70% of gun related deaths are suicides!
Not one single "gun right" has been taken away, despite the hysterical propaganda to the contrary. And the fact that some people think that shooting someone is the solution to every infraction (talk about thug mentality...) is why everyone shouldn't be so easily armed. No one with that short a fuse should be carrying a firearm.
ReplyDeleteI had heard about two cars being broken into about 2 weeks ago on 72nd Road by the church across from La Boulangerie.
