I won't interrupt my vacation for visits by Obama or Bloomberg, but for a new burger place, I'm there!
A reader told me a new burger place called Twist & Smash'd will be opening at 72-06 Austin St. (the space where a store called Diva used to be.)
I don't know anything about this place, but when a retail space in FoHi converts from a store dedicated to clothing for mid-sized women, to one that creates mid-sized women (and men), through 21st Century food like modern takes on burgers and fries, heck, I'm all for it!

And with that awesome news I now resume vacationing...
Drake, It's Not a burger joint but another froz yogurt joint. It's called Twist it Top it.
ReplyDeleteThere is one on Metro.
Different place
DeleteBanter put up their Fall Menu. Try the Shank, it's to die for.
ReplyDeleteBanter tends to oversalt everything.
ReplyDeleteThe burger place is definitely opening. They had a stand at the street festival. Burger was good. There were many customers too as they couldn't keep up with the orders.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a burger place. They were at the festival this weekend, which was a good move on their part and hopefully generated a little bit of buzz. Seems like a lower-key and less expensive alternative to Bareburger. I didn't try any of the sandwiches but the smashed potatoes were delicious.
ReplyDeleteThey had a booth at the street fair, looked promising.
ReplyDeleteWe now have Bareburger, Cheeburger Cheeburger, McDonald's; Banter also serves burgers. Now this place. Will all of these burger places survive, being so close to one another?
ReplyDeleteNot another fly by night burger joint!
ReplyDeleteDiva boutique is for young-ish girls/women, not mid-sized women, and moved down Austin Street a few months back, between Vanilla Sky and that Italian place no one ever goes to
ReplyDeleteWhat we really need around here is a decent, upscale fried chicken place around here. Boston Market and Buffalo Wild Wings doesn't cut it for me.
ReplyDeletecheck the menu CHICKEN and Waffles on a STICK! people should not say anything bad before they try it! better then an empty store.
DeleteI'm confused. Upscale Fried Chicken Place? There is nothing upscale about fried chicken; or anything fried for that matter.
DeleteSad that forest hills has no proper vegetarian/vegan eatery.
ReplyDeleteLet's say all you hipsters get your wish. Forest Hills becomes a foodie paradise and another place for hipsters to invade. Then what happens? Rents go up, you realize you can't afford to live here, then you move to somewhere else, say Kew Gardens or Briarwood and you try to turn those places into hipster paradises and the cycle continues.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that is a possibility here in forest hills. I think we can absolutely get some great eateries, but the makeup of the neighborhood is not conducive to a "cool or hip" neighborhood - too many people treat Fohi like the suburbs for that to happen. Besides, I think rent is already on the pricey side with 1 BR apt's averaging close to 2k now....
DeleteAny neighborhood in New York City with connections to multiple subway lines, especially multiple express subways that get you into Manhattan in under half an hour, is conducive to hipsterism. Just open your eyes and see the new types of places moving in to FoHi, the neighborhood is already changing. These are just words though. What's the point of labeling the changes? I don't quite get the preoccupation people have with that. What matters to me is whether the neighborhood is improving, which it dramatically is. All I want from my nabe are great places to eat and go with friends or family, low crime, some charm. Forest Hills has all those things and continues to get more of them..
DeleteThe fact remains, however, that FoHi is short on rentals - co-ops are way more popular and many hipsters tend to be transient types, so unless they can pony up the $$ for a permanent residence, I don't know how hip Forest Hills will actually get. We are closer in spirit to Park Slope, not Williamsburg.
