Due to the storm, Bareburger Forest Hills tells me they will be opening tomorrow (Thursday, 2/13/14) at 4:30pm.
On a brighter note, for Valentine's day (this Friday, 2/14/14) Bareburger Forest Hills will be offering its Rose wine as a special. The bottle will be available for purchase for dine-in guests for only $15. Wine info: Domaine Bousquet Rose 2012.
My husband just got food poisoning from this location for the second time! First was soon after they opened. We gave it another shot a few months later due to strong recommendations- and he figured he'd steer clear from the burger he had the previous time. We loved it and had many successful meals there. Very sadly, it happened again last night and I think this time we're off of it for good. Damn it!
ReplyDeleteI really shouldn't have to point this out, but before you accuse a business of such a thing you should really consider a whole host of other possibles. Does he have a food allergy? Is he sensitive to spicy foods if that's what he had? Did he happen to eat anything else before this meal that might have caused it? It could be attributable to a ton of different things. (I speak from personal experience as someone who learned the hard way that I am sensitive to certain foods.)
DeleteOh, and the reason I am poiningt this out because I have eaten at Bareburger too many times to count and never had a problem - same goes for my family and friends. And the place is always busy. So, the problem might be on your end if your husband keeps feeling sick after eating there. Just something to consider. Or... he could just be having bad luck at this place, but I highly doubt it.
DeleteI hear you- truly! And have been researching the ingredients in his burger (the Roadhouse) to see if it could be a food specific allergy. So far, not coming up with anything. And I don't mean to try to give them a bad name. We have had MANY great, issue free meals here as well. And I am hoping that in time, he will be willing to go for another non-burger meal (we both obsess over their Chicken Pickle sandwich!)
DeleteI actually just came from Bareburger, of which I am a big fan. However, I've found that the Austin Street location is not as clean or good as the counterparts in Astoria. For starters, when I went in for lunch today the floor was filthy with fries and napkins littered under a table. The glasses which we were given were dirty and we had to ask for clean ones. The fried chicken and fries were so over done and seemed to have been re-fried at least twice in a very dark oil. They should really change the oil.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, Twist and Smashd, who some people raved about, seems to be on the way out. Everytime I walk by, it is empty. I tried it once and it really was nothing special.
I too have noticed that everytime I pass Twist and Smashd it is completely empty. Personally, I haven't tried them simply because I feel it is too expensive in relation to very small portion sizes. I think we already have enough burger options in the area, including bareburger, Cheeburger, and McDonalds. We really need other non-burger options now, IMO.
DeleteHey, that Italian restaurant across the street from Haagen Daaz looks like its vacating the premises. They were overpriced anyway. But may they had no choice.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a food poisoning issue, wouldn't it be more than likely that this would happen to more than one person--if an ingredient is bad or mishandled, it's likely more than one burger's-worth of a particular ingredient. And if that happened, my guess is that more than one person would be commenting here, or word would be circulating on the street. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteActually everyone's stomach can handle food poisoning different meaning better; so it wouldnt necessarily be more than one person complaining for that matter; besides .0002 percent of people actually comment about a place good or bad.... so last comment is irrelevant. .. sorry

DeleteThe east end of Austin Street does not get enough foot traffic for most businesses to survive. Most of your foot traffic tends to turn west at Continental Av. Foot traffic walking east may walk just a couple of blocks in on Austin. Unless you have a 10-star exciting product, good luck. Twist and Smashd is just another burger joint, nothing to really write home about. If they don't get 500 customers a day, how could they possibly afford the rent? Foot traffic, in general, is extremely light Monday- Thursday on Austin street. So if you don't do gangbusters of volume on weekends, you are not going to make it.
