What better way to spend our first real heat wave than with a visit to one of the best old-time ice cream parlors in New York City? Luckily for us, it's just a short walk down to Metropolitan Ave., where you'll find Eddie's Sweet Shop right there at the corner of 72nd Road, where it has stood since 1967 (though an ice cream parlor at that location dates back to possibly as early as 1925, according to records). If you're new to Forest Hills, or been here some time and still haven't made it to Eddie's, it really is worth the trip, especially on a hot summer night. Not only is the ice cream great, but the place is absolutely hopping with ice cream lovers of all ages.
I love this place! The workers are so sweet (no pun intended) and you can tell they really are passionate about this place. Ice cream is the best I have had. Whipped cream is also made in house.
ReplyDeleteLove Eddies!
ReplyDeleteEddies is the greatest place on earth in NYC on a hot summer day. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous (anonymi?) is/are correct on all points as are you Drake. There is simply no place outside of a pool my kids and I like more in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI never liked Eddie's ice cream and I usually avoided going. However I was at The Other Place on Metropolitan the other night and had an ice cream sandwich with vanilla ice cream that was really good -- turns out it's from Eddie's. So I finally found something that I will like there, of course the simplest of flavors :)
ReplyDeleteI was here on Saturday's with friends, including one from Australia. Duly impressed. The ice cream is always delicious and the whipped cream is not too sweet - just the right contrast. I hope they never leave.
ReplyDeleteI love Eddie's, but I haven't been there in months! I'll have to fix that!
ReplyDeleteThe workers should be wearing gloves while handling food.
ReplyDeleteYeah and they also constantly wash their hands. Their gloves would get too gross from all the delicious hot fudge that ends up everywhere. One of the greatest messy delights!
