Save The Historic Cinemart Theatre by seeing a major film screening this week!!!

Cinemart Cinemas at 106-03 Metropolitan Ave in Forest Hills has a second chance for survival, since Warner Bros. Pictures has at last licensed a first-run film, “American Sniper,” which is also one of the year’s most acclaimed films, produced and directed by Clint Eastwood.
- Previews will be screened on January 15 at 7 PM, 8 PM, and 9 PM, and include free popcorn and a drink with refills.
- Beginning on January 16, there will be 8 to 9 daily screenings through the Oscars (February 22) and likely beyond.
The Cinemart is being tested! If the film does not draw a large enough audience, owner Nicolas Nicolaou may have no choice but to close his 5-screen theater, which dates to 1927, since Hollywood studios will likely issue no other first-run films.
The Cinemart's year-round lower price policy consists of a $6.00 admission for weekday matinees (12 PM to 5 PM) with an extension to Tuesday evenings. Seniors and children pay $6.00 at all times. General admission for adults is $9.00. Patrons can anticipate complimentary popcorn and a drink with Wednesday and Thursday admissions.
If ticket sales prove successful, the owner envisions restoring and renovating one of the borough's last continuously operated independent movie theaters.

  1. This place cannot be allowed to disappear! Their low ticket prices have been a life saver for me throughout the years!

  2. That would be so sad to lose another movie theater! Definitely want to help keep the Cinemart open!

  3. I'll be heartbroken if the Cinemart gets shut down. Brandon Cinemas turning into a medical center was bad enough. How much more do we have to take?

  4. A bigger fight looms for saving The Midway. The new property owners have yet to lay out their plans. The only thing we know is that a high- rise structure will take its place.

  5. i was thinking of going until i looked it up and they still use 35mm projection. maybe the owner should have invested in some new tech instead of penny pinching

  6. I WANT to like this place but needs serious upgrades. How about putting some classic films in the theaters and also running a kids program where parents can bring their kids to see classic films on screen. Rather then just making it a cheap place to see movies (most people have TVs bigger thehn these screens) and arent in a gross, dirty theater.

  7. The Midway can close for all I care - they never show quality movies, only action films loaded with violence. My theater of choice is Kew Gardens, which always has first rate films, including foreign films. I like the cinemart and will support them, but they need to upgrade their film choices. I haven't seen a movie there in ages because the good movies are always at The Kew. It's a real shame the Brandon closed and I wish there would have been more community support for them.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree about both the Midway and the Kew Gardens Cinema. The Midway is a zoo with screaming babies, cell phones going off and morons yelling at the screen. I will never go in that place again. The Kew is a pleasant experience with comfortable seats, considerate crowds and excellent movie choices . I hope the Cinemart survives, I have been trying to support them over the past 6 months.

  8. great opportunity to go for a movie but to stay on metropolitan for the food... Katsuno a Michelin Guide recommend restaurant. Danny Brown's or Il Poeta... The Other Place is another good option too.

    1. very good point. what happened the old "dinner and movie" date night? you would think this would be an ideal location for that. no shortage of great food, ample parking, and a theater along with a historic ice cream shop next door for dessert. could it be any more perfect for one stop shopping?

  10. I support Cinemart and regularly see movies there. I really hope it does well enough with American Sniper to stay open! But I also like the one at Atlas Park- it is very expensive, but has great stadium seating and huge screens, you never have a view obstructed by the person in front of you, it is a bit of a splurge but a nice place to see a movie.

  11. I don't go to the movies much, but I'm off work for a couple days and wanted to see some movies that appeared to be playing at Cinemart. I woke up this morning and checked the times on their phone recording (the website had not been updated yet). I planned my day around seeing a movie in the afternoon, grabbing dinner, and then seeing another in the evening. And then the website was updated with different times, and the first movie I wanted to see actually doesn't play until 9:35pm. So there goes that plan.

If they can't communicate movie times properly to potential movie goers, I can certainly see why they're struggling. It's not rocket science. It's probably the simplest task they need to perform in order to function as a movie theater, and they seem to have failed at it. I get the urge to support the mom & pops, but these guys are making it difficult.
