Dani's delectable pie. Simply superb. |
I've been meaning to do an updated favorite pizza post for quite a while, and finally am getting around to it. Here's my Top 5 Forest Hills - and nearby - pizza faves.
My Top 5 have evolved over the years as I've tried and repeatedly eaten quite a bit of the local offerings. So, the following is based on almost two decades of Edge of the City pizza eating:
1) Dani's House of Pizza in Kew Gardens - Simply delectable. If only they delivered to Forest Hills I would be in heaven, and also quite obese. I have to say their pizza is up there with the best I've ever had anywhere the world over.
2) Lillian Pizzeria in Forest Hills - The pizza gods shined on central Forest Hills in 2018 when Lillian began delivering its incredible pies. Simply awesome traditional New York pizza.
3) Numero 28 in Forest Hills - This newcomer on Restaurant Row in Forest Hills has sensational pizza offerings.
4) Tuscan Hills in Forest Hills - This local Italian restaurant also offers a fantastic array of pizza.
5) Nick's Pizza in Forest Hills - This old favorite - which only recently started delivering after years of not doing so (probably because of all the stepped up competition) - has one of the best pepperoni pizzas I've ever eaten.
Runner Up - Dee's, on Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills. Really good selection of pizza. If only they delivered!
Our winner! Dani's in Kew Gardens |
Gloria Pizza is fantastic. Never disappoints.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gloria's and would add in Dante's
ReplyDeleteHad Gloria the other night and it was garbage. So disappointing as I would have it as a front runner for many new york slices. The sauce was different - smelled and tasted jarred.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I ordered Gloria’s a couple of weeks ago (when Dante’s was closed) and the cheese was off. I mean OFF. Sour milk rancid. I couldn’t believe it! I will never order from them again!
ReplyDeleteBeen getting the round Grandma's slice at Gloria lately, so good.
ReplyDeleteGloria's is pretty good. Their white slice with spinach is great and really anything I've had there has been awesome.
ReplyDeleteOf your list I find Nick's to be the only worthy pizza "IF" you desire thin crusted pie only. The rest are in my mine just pedestrian. My favorite pie is out of the area so I will not mention it ,but if you can travel down 108th St to Rego Park the real hidden gem in the area is Palace Pizza. Looks like a deli inside with a very tiny case for pie in the back but OH boy can the guy make a pie ,love the Mushroom
ReplyDeleteDani's pesto slices are among my favorites. Also love the Quatro Formaggio from Tuscan Hills. Nick's is OK, but the crust is a little too thin for my taste. Also agree that Numero 28 is good, but I've only had their pizza once.
ReplyDeleteNicks, Dees, Dantes, La Rondine, and Dani's. Dani's would be much higher if the customer service was better.
ReplyDeletePizza Classica is the best! And they deliver ;)
ReplyDeleteLillian’s went from 0 to 60 like an Italian sports car.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Dee's deliver through Gubhub?
ReplyDeleteNot that they were even close to the top of this list, but A&J's is gone. The property was seized by the Marshals on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteAs for my personal choices, Dante's on Metropolitan should be up there, and Classica is consistently great for pizza and Italian food, it's reasonably priced and has lots of parking, which is a big plus.
Gloria’s will be getting more business now that AJ closed.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Due Fratelli at 101-16 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills-
ReplyDeletehave never been disappointed with their pizza.
Dani's, Dante's Pizza, Pizza Classica in that order for that type of NYC pizza by the slice. Nick's then Dee's for original style pizza.
