Just to bring you up to speed on what I had heard about these spaces:
- The former Duane Reade/Buffalo Wild Wings structure is going to become a Whole Foods. I heard this several months ago and those who said it sounded pretty sure of themselves. Since then.... nada but a For Rent sign on the windows. Sad, and still waiting for confirmation.
If you take a look at the map of Whole Foods in the New York City area there is a gigantic white space between Long Island and Manhattan, with Forest Hills smack dab in the middle. We're an obvious choice. And this structure is even more so, smack dab as it sits in the middle of Forest Hills and just steps away from the subway station.
- Right across the street, where the Forest Hills mini-mall used to be housing Tasti D-Lite (remember those days?), a teeny tiny barbershop, etc., a massive construction project is underway. The only thing I've heard about this one is that it possibly may become a variety of small eateries.
Of course, if anyone has any information on either of these projects, please email us at edgeofthecity@gmail.com.
If WF waited it out for another 2 -3 years, they could open up where the new high rise is going up on Yellowstone Blvd (former Key Food). Rent would be so much cheaper. Something tells me that another Key Food will end up coming back into that site however.
ReplyDeleteThat 2 story structure was formerly a movie theater (with 2 screens one on each floor). A Whole Foods would be a good usage of that space.
ReplyDeleteOMG I hope you ate right!!! We have needed WF for so long it’s not even funny. The area is literally ripe for it. We are so underserved when it comes to organic produce. And to those people out there who like to say “Whole Paycheck” when talking about WF, think again. Their prices are actually lower than the Natural Market- significantly. I was at WF yesterday right on 42nd and 6th, and organic raspberries were $4.99, which might seem high to some, but at Natural they are a whopping $6.99!!! If anything, a new WF here will give Natural a run for their money and force them to be more competitive, they have a total monopoly right now, I am keeping my fingers crossed as this WF would be outstanding news!!!
ReplyDeleteAs long as it's not another bank or medical lab, it's all good.
ReplyDeleteWF looked at the Target space back when it was being leased but couldn't get comfortable based on the limited parking and transit options. Maybe they feel differently now, not sure but seems unlikely
ReplyDeleteWould be a drop too small for a Whole Foods but more ideal as a Trader Joe's!! Or even the Yellowstone spot for TJ!! Yes, there's one in "Rego Park" but that's not really in our neighborhood!!
