Boy oh boy, is this a layer cake of politics or what? I can't recall a single political choice fraught with such importance in so many different ways:

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey’s announcement of an unusual special election was immediately criticized for costing the state $24 million and for setting up a schedule that was likely to confuse the voting public.
