Gourmet Sandwiches Come to Forest Hills

Finally, there's a place to stop in and quickly get some higher quality sandwiches here in Forest Hills. The recently opened Mr. Vino's Cucina now offers a variety of artisanal sandwiches with gourmet ingredients.

As long-time followers of this blog know, I've been saying for years that one of the untapped needs of residents of Forest Hills is a conveniently-located place to pick up a wholesome, quality sandwich. We now have just such a place smack dab in the center of the neighborhood. They offer several Daily Specials, or you can have them make for you whatever your heart—I mean stomach—desires.

The closest thing we've had so far is La Boulangerie, which offers several excellent sandwiches, including their take on a pastrami sandwich (excellent, highly recommend you try it if you haven't), a tuna sandwich, and others. La Boulangerie does not make sandwiches to order, however.

  1. Whooo hoo! I wanted a good sammy place for years!!! The organic supermarket was pretty slim with options, Key Food makes decent Boars Head style sandwiches (but are just okay), and Subway isnt even worth talking about. La Boulangerie sandwiches are small and pretentious for a city guy (haha, no offense, i actually do enjoy them). Looking forward to trying one out. Thanks for the heads up.

  2. Any chance one of these joints will go all "21st Century" on us and add gluten-free bread to the menu?

  3. This is definitely a thumbs up for Cucina, and a step in the right direction. Hopefully next stop is a more interesting artisinal cheese selection for us cheese-heads.

  4. Upon re-visiting Cucina today I felt compelled to post an update to my prior postings on the original Cucina thread. They're now carrying a cheese by Jasper Hill Farm (Winnimere) which is a seasonal cheese produced between November - April. I was thrilled to see this cheese today and it's definitely a step in the right direction in regards to bringing in seasonal, artisinal cheese selections.

  5. Feh, I'd gladly toss this place back into the ether for the chance to have Koch and Nord back.

  6. Koch and Nord are very happily retired, splitting their time between Forest Hills and their native Germany, so not gonna happen.

    1. I know that but I've never been able to get cold cuts as good as the ones they had since they closed up shop. They used to give me delicious cookies as well just for stopping in, they knew how to run a business.
