Some Greenmarket Music

Nice to see Olivia Mancini performing again today at the Forest Hills Greenmarket.

  1. I imagine that was quite a contrast to the insufferable techno outside of Red Mango this morning. Free froyo with a side of hearing impairment!

  2. As of 4:39, its still going on in front of Red Mango. So damn loud and unnecessary. Its already chaotic with the construction. I feel really bad for the tenants living directly above it. So after paying the three DJ's for x amount of hours of work, the amount of free yogurt they've given away plus the staff salary, they're taking quite a hit with an expectation of success.

  4. horrible location, especially with the construction work going on around them. Even with the DJ's attempting to bring attention to the location, it was still difficult to see them with all the dirt, cranes, and tubes surrounding it. Anyone wanna take bets on how long they'll last? I'm giving it 1 year, and thats only because they must've signed a lease.

    1. I agree with you assessment regarding this business. What surprises me is that the franchiser has a national footprint, encourages multi-unit ownership and claims to provide site selection support. It's possible, the franchisee had no knowledge of the area and the franchiser was relying on market statistics and demographics for the "site support". So it's not like they're a bunch of sleeze bags looking to churn & burn fledging entrepreneurs.

    2. That makes a lot of sense. The franchisee must've relied solely on documented franchiser stats to invest in the establishment. A quick walk in the neighborhood would've brought to light that, A) MTA Construction would obstruct the business, and B) there are at least 5 yogurt spots in a 4 block radius (some of which are in higher traffic areas). Visual stats must've been MIA in the process.

  5. It's all about visibility and foot traffic
Plus, can you imagine the fly and rodent problem come summer?!!!

    1. Maybe they are counting on the foot traffic brought to that spot by the store next door, which at one time was going to be a 7-Eleven. That is now up in the air. But eventually that large space will be filled which will probably really bump up the traffic to that corner.

    2. I hadn't even thought of the potential bug and rodent problem resulting from the massive construction. Speaking of construction, is the MTA really investing all this time and money to build one elevator and some cosmetic improvements? They've teared down multiple streets (including two huuuuge holes on Queens Blvd that have since been covered up), will have worked on this project over a year (including some overnight...hence...overtime work) simply to build an elevator? Is anyone else perplexed about that as well?

    3. Who knows. But while on the topic of government mysteries, is anyone else out there utterly baffled by the TSA's back and forth about bringing small knives on planes? I was baffled when they first announced you could all of a sudden carry certain types of knives. And now, all of a sudden, after the Marathon bombings, they have gone back to prohibiting them. WHY??? What changed? Just because an attack happened suddenly it becomes dangerous to bring small knives on planes and it wasn't dangerous two weeks ago? MADDENING!!!
