Readers are emailing me today about this rather gruesome story. Those with weak stomachs should read no further:

  1. Just in time for Halloween, a real-life horror story. Ew.

While not a fan of police/CSI-type shows, I find it fascinating how the FBI and other law enforcement agencies learn about these plots and then set up elaborate ways to gather evidence and make arrests.

  3. Sadly I know the guy. Would never in a million years have thought HE of all was like this.

  4. What is nuts is I heard low flying craft overhead where I live when it happened. I thought it was related to something else and I knew something was up but I didn't look out my window to see the choppers, I just presumed it was regular aircraft or something and I really didn't want to find out what happened, which I did after I went online and saw the news story broke.

Remember, 9/11/2001 happened in Manhattan and Airplanes have gone into buildings in Manhattan (small plane crashes) before. Choppers are everywhere in NYC these days.

The issues that bothered here me were political corruption either at the local level or federal level.

At the city level, was this cop appropriately screened and are pay grades being based on meritocracy or is politics playing a role in payscales?

At the federal level: Were charges drawn up that were fradulent or were they attempting to influence local political races or something else by targetting this specific individual?

Sting operations go down all the time and there are always going to be crooked employees. But I do believe in smaller and less wasteful government.

The Federal government should not wind up involved in a case that involved a local cop who was corrupt. The NYPD and the city should have been the one who had full juristictional control over this matter and they should have done a much better job of vetting their own employees internally.

  6. I can't believe this. I went to high school with this guy! We were in some same classes! He lived not too far from me.

  7. Actually no, he was NOT a "big Obama fan." He was a conservative (not so shockingly enough...) who complained about the "liberal court system." You fail. As usual.

  8. I am curious which blogging and site-building
platform you are running? I'm new to blogging and have been thinking about using the Vox platform. Do you think this is a
good platform to start with? I would be extremely
grateful if I could ask you some questions through e-mail so I can learn a bit
more before getting started. When you have some free time, please contact me at: troy-pickard@arcor.de. Cheers
