Beer Hall Coming to Forest Hills?

A reader sent this in to me tonight, scanned from a QR Code on the window of what formerly was Marianella's, the short-lived Mexican restaurant near the LIRR station (next to McDonald's). The reader says there are also work permits up on the window. Needless to say, this would be awesome for the neighborhood.

    1. You're not serious, right? Are you at all aware of the caliber of the other New York City neighborhoods that have beer halls? You should feel honored that -- if this news is indeed true, and they are opening where Marianella's was -- that they chose our neighborhood over so many other great ones that they could've opened in here in NYC. Think before you type.

    2. There, I just put a very nice picture up for you of exceedingly happy Oktoberfest visitors. Perhaps it will warm you a little to the concept of a scary beer hall.

  2. My dream would come true. Was hoping for a pony bar but will take any craft beer place we can get.

  3. Not quite sure how this would be horrible. Was just at Jack and Nellie's (which is a great place to go and have a bite and drinks) with another young Forest Hills couple and we were saying how our neighborhood needs more places like this. This would be a welcomed addition to our lackluster nightlife and would help retain young professional twenty somethings who originally moved here for the cheaper rent. Anyone who thinks this is horrible is out of their minds... or must be a part owner of one of the four frozen yogurt places that are opening up.

  4. Do singles hang out at Jack and Nellie's and beer halls? Restaurants in the area have bars and the like but a Beer hall may be better for meeting someone?

Beer halls aren't sophisticated concepts though. Just get kegs of some beers and whiskey and whatnot, it really is just a place for those of drinking age to enjoy themselves and to profit.

  5. The concept beats a bank and a crappy mexican restaurant.

    1. Too many food places in town competing against each other and none of it is really any good.

Lots of restaurants with bars in them but a Beer hall may offer something that the others don't have.

    2. Why do you equate a Beer Hall with being drunk? Do you have some sort of a drinking problem, or are you a freshman in college? I'm completely serious. I'd like to understand the way you're thinking.

  6. This looks awesome. Is the space big enough?

  7. I love beer. Teetotalers should move to gated communities. Some of these whiners sound like my grouchy Republican father.

  8. If this is true this is great news. And can we stop focusing just on the idea of it being a beer hall, as it states it is also a Gastropub. That is something this neighborhood desperately needs. Maybe next 718 Hookah Lounge can be replaced with an awesome indie coffee shop.

    1. Despite the owner calling it "beer hall" in the QR Code above, DNAinfo.com reports it will be more of a gastropub: http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20121023/forest-hills/gastropub-set-open-on-continental-avenue

  9. Say what you like, but boozing as the goal of the restaurant WILL increase crime and not improve the area.
Are they even thinking about security after these people leave the bar. Late closing times are nor a plus either.
What this neighborhood really needs is a Pita Grill.
Or maybe a nice restaurant that happens to have a great wine and craft beer selection.

    1. you have no idea what you're talking about... so don't capitalize "WILL".

    2. don't be so ignorant. i love how quick people are to judge... the place doesn't even have a sign up yet. sometimes you have to give things a chance, it could do well for the local economy and will create jobs in a time that we so desperately need them. it's not going to be a drunk house, so do your research.

When reached over the phone, the pub's owner said that Forest Hills Station House, next to the neighborhood's Long Island Rail Road station, wouldn't be a beer hall on the level of Astoria's Bohemian Hall Beer Garden, but would offer craft beers, whiskey, scotch and "an amazing gastropub menu."
