First Casualty of the Forest Hills Burger Wars

..... is.... Johnny Rockets! And I can't say I am sorry to see this one leave the nabe. As the friend who sent me this pic asks, "Could 2013 be the year we get our Shake Shack?" I can only dream....

    1. Hi Is there a way to delete this post overall? My apologies for the offensive username but I'd like to remove this so it doesn't come up in searches etc. Thank you.

  2. So they get more business in that wasteland than on Austin Street?! Um... OK...

  3. Merging to just the ghost town known as Atlas Park, interesting...

  4. Not really surprised. Place was usually empty. And that type of eating establishment (with singing waiters/waitresses) seemed like a 90s relic. I just hope it's not another bank that opens at that location.

  5. I have never eaten there. I am shocked that someone would chose Atlas Park over Austin St. Maybe it's more about rent than bringing in the numbers?

  6. Dudes....it is packed on the weekends.....half hour waits. The movie theater is next door

  7. By the headline, I was so worried it was going to be Cheeburger Cheeburger. But I'm glad it was Johnny Rockets. Now Bareburger and Chee will duke it out!

  8. Right by Marthas Bakery and the new Chipotle.

Quality location. Was never in Johnny Rockets before. It was a theme restaurant and reminded me of the studio tours in California. MGM or Universal Studios or one of those had a retro burger joint place when I was last there a long time ago.

I heard the food wasn't good at Johnny Rockets and it doesn't fit well with the crowd or market that lives here.

Does anyone know who the owner is of the Johnny Rockets property and if this will be sold or leased or if another tenant is moving in?

  9. Maybe Petey's will open an outpost here and we can finally get real burgers in Forest Hills

  12. A few things to add:
First, the food at Johnny Rockets is (in my opinion,) not good.
Second, I have never seen it crowded at the location at Atlas Park (I often see movies at the theater next door.) Maybe rent was too high on Austin.

Third, Shake Shack is finally expanding outside of New York City. With a location that just recently opened in Westbury, maybe it can become a reality for Forest Hills? Hopefully...

  15. The landlord is the same landlord as Martha's and Chipotle. The space has already been leased, to a non-chain entity--no bank, no Shake Shack.

  16. It is going to be an Irish Gastro Pub called "The Flying Pig". Same owner as Tap House & Morrisons

  17. Who needs Shake Shack when we've got Bareburger? (Did I just say that? Yea, I did) :)
