  3. Looks like the wine bar on Queens Blvd. near 75th Avenue is about to open as well.

  4. When will the medical building expansion finally finish on Austin Street? Seems like they only hire a small few workers who do construction on the project which could have been done ages ago if they hired more workers.

You would think they would want to make their money back from the construction costs.

  5. Slowest construction in recorded history.

    1. The news about Chipotle came well after the construction on Red Mango started, and Chipotle will most likely open sooner.

  6. is this taking over the Staples location on 71st/Continental? If not, where is it going?

  7. Red Mango is by the Former OTB Station by the 71st and Continental Subway stop.

Staples has a full scale store now in the Rego Park Mall. The old Staples store was shut down but the layout of the store was absolutely horrible.

  8. There have been projects which have moved quickly like the construction of the Windsor.

But the building on Austin Street wasn't even a new construction, it was an expansion and a wraparound by the LIRR. They hired only a small amount of workers and the project started years ago and still isn't finished.

The property is apparently affiliated with LIJ so my guess is the hospital ran short of funding as I know they were affected by the Madoff scandal so it is taking forever to finish.

  9. Now we need a Panera Bread on Austin Street.

  10. I second the Panera Bread suggestion.

Would also love a place where you can get a fresh salad topped with grilled chicken. (Is this a lot to ask?)

Lastly, anyone know what's going in the old Staples space???

    1. Have you ever been to La Boulangerie? It's right here in Forest Hills. Has incredible grilled chicken salads made every day and bread that's much better than Panera.

    2. Upon your suggestion, I tried the grilled chicken salad today and it was quite tasty. I only thought La Boulangerie had bread and (amazing) baked goods. Now I stand corrected. Thanks.

  11. Don't know what the obsession is over panera. I mean, it is ok - but what would it really add to austin st? The only good thing panera has is ample seating which would solve our "impossible to get a seat and enjoy a cup of coffee" problem in forest hills.

  12. Glass shattered on the unfinished medical building due to the Storm. Some windows broke and collapsed. Hopefully no one on the ground was hurt.

  13. Storm seems to be generating a lot of local damage.

  14. This is one few time I agree with Drake. La Boulangerie is owned by a master French Baker. Panera Bread is mass marketed food on a mass scale. La Boulangerie is far superior and local in nature. It was a small business which grew in size and scope and is doing incredibly well. Perhaps he could open up more locations if he wishes, but unlike Panera Bread which is just mass marketed food in various locations, La Boulangerie is a real French bakery.

I haven't been in before, but I heard it is good. Other than the grilled chicken salads, what other lunch type items do they have? Apparently they do omlettes too.
