Newest Food Truck

This Hibachi truck started appearing on 71st/Continental over the past couple of weeks. Has anyone tried it?

  1. My wife and I passed this truck one hungry afternoon, but the truck is so dark and sketchy looking that we were intimidated. I know I shouldn't judge a food truck by its cover, but who's idea was it to paint it black? Are they really doing surveillance for Homeland Security? Am I making too much out of it? Haha, I'm curious to know what others think of the actual food. I'm game to try it out.

  2. They show up near my work once per week in Manhattan - only had them twice, and they're not bad, although I tend to get diverted by other food choices (or mostly bringing in my own lunch). Still, I enjoyed it both times: got the chicken/fried rice/vegetables mainly. Most of the flavor is from the sauce: Heavenly Ginger sauce is good, although you can ask for multiple sauces to be added to mix things up. A co-worker got the brown rice and found it dry, but not sure if that was just a one time thing.

  3. I've also tried them once in Manhattan and they weren't bad. It's another good option to have in the hood.

  5. I tried it and regretted it. A fowl mess is the only way to describe it. I wonder if it will get into a battle with the Waffle truck. Sadly, all these trucks do is take up precious parking spaces on Continental. They should be banned.

    1. Sad to hear it wasn't good. But you rather parking spaces over food trucks? Really? Never understood why anyone would drive to the continental/austin st. area .... or why anyone in forest hills would want a car unless they need it for work ...

    2. I agree 100%! I sold my car after only 1 year of living in the 'hood and have not regretted it even once in the 10 years since. Bring on the food trucks! I wish they would close off Austin St to cars altogether and just make it a giant sidewalk with more outdoor seating for the warmer months. But still with food trucks ;)

  6. I'd rather have a parking space over a food truck. Food trucks are filthy. Do you ever see the guys in the Waffle truck handle money and then handle waffles with the same dirty hands?

  7. Artisan, edgy food trucks are usually found only in hip parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. We should take as a compliment that they're here. Judging by the germaphobe and xenophobic comments, however (the food truck is "so dark and sketchy looking" like a criminal) it's clear why FoHi supports crappy chains like TGIF. Better to be bland and safe than hip and adventurous.
