Time Warner May Drop CBS Thursday

Sorry, but I find this whole thing laughable. I saw a commercial the other day from Time Warner trying to rile up viewers in its dispute with CBS. Time Warner is threatening to drop CBS here in NYC over some compensation dispute—who really gives a shit what it is, both companies have more money than God—and the commercial was trying to get viewers to support Time Warner, to understand why it may drop CBS, to get us to put pressure on CBS somehow for Time Warner. Poor, poor Time Warner! As if we don't have enough problems of our own, we're supposed to go to bat for them? Puhleease! They have got to be kidding.

Update: The current contract has been extended through 5 p.m. Monday.

  1. It's a cliche to be a New Yorker and say that Time Warner sucks, but they do suck. Their service stinks, their customer service is rude beyond belief, and their prices are a joke. Unfortunately, TWC is the only option in my building. But if I had another choice, I would flip them the bird and say "Sayonara." They're the worst. Sorry, had to vent.

    1. Don't be sorry, RayRay, you speak for many of us. TWC sucks and is much too expensive, but we have no choice if we're going to get any television at all. The days of the wire antenna are long gone. Here's hoping Verizon can make more inroads in the buildings in the area so we can all collectively flip TWC the bird...with our wallets!

  2. I put my name on the Verizon FIOS list MANY times. The last message was that they would be entering into negotiation soon with my building. Have not heard anything in a long time since then.

I do know Verizon FIOS has wired up some other buildings by me for FIOS recently and there is one other project ongoing right now in my community. So I don't know if we will ever get them or not.

  3. Cable TV is one of the worst scams that was ever foisted on the American public. Those of us old enough to remember the great network shows of the 70s and 80s thought "Pay TV" was a novelty. Back then, we had tons of great shows to choose from and it didn't cost us a dime. Early cable channels enticed viewers by promising "no commercials - ever" if you paid. Now that cable has hoodwinked everyone into paying, you get commercials. And non-cable viewers get...cheapo reality show crap!

    1. I lived through the 70's and 80s and no, those network shows were not great. There were good shows of course, but they were few and very far between. Cable forced the networks to up their game which has made television better overall. On the whole, cable still has the edge over networks in terms of quality, the greatest television show of all time is The Wire and that could never have been shown on network television. But by all means, stay back in the days of The Love Boat and Vega$, the rest of us know where the great television is.

  4. How is it feasible that a frikkin Cable company can drop a major network...it's all about $$. This is not the first we're hearing of this; many are brought back to life once they're pulled off the air. I agree- Time Warner Cable SUCKS; we need more decent, reasonably priced options. Maybe we should go back to the Rabbit Ear antennas (with or without aluminum foil)

    1. Rabbit Ears won't work (analog not digital), but I've always wonder what kind of reception and channels you could get with an HD Antenna. Anyone know?

    2. my building has an antenna on the roof (67th Ave), which runs down into the individual apartment units. we get crystal clear reception on a ton of channels.

I find that between over-the-air programming, and a Roku for Netflix/Amazon Prime/Vudu/Crackle/other streaming services, there's more than enough to watch, and for a fraction of the cost of cable!

    3. That is fantastic! How did you guys get an antenna approved by the building management - any hints that you can share?

    4. It was already installed when I moved in. Sorry!

  5. I got the reverse ad and called TWC to tell them I want CBS, Wish my land lord would allow FIOS!

  6. Not sure why everyone is blaming TW. Plenty of blame to go around with all the networks too. I GUARANTEE that CBS is trying to tie other channels that they want to get on TW into these CBS negotiations

  7. Yawn...this is a lame cause. These big companies are fighting over who gets to charge the consumer more money. The public will pay one way or another.

Any updates on the FOHI crime watch group? They should recruit 5 squads consisting of 4 members of the community to patrol the Gardens and Van Court areas at night looking out for low life thugs who are looking to prey on our humble neighbors. Each patrol would work 2 hour shifts. The Gardens patrol car can then just spend the night at McDonalds instead of being parked on Union Turnpike taking a snooze.
