Another Queens Blvd. Tragedy

How many more people have to lose their lives on this treacherous roadway that runs through our neighborhood before our public officials get off their fucking asses and do something about it? Fucking disgraceful and sickening.

Forest Hills hit and run leaves woman dead

  1. i wonder if the driver was turning onto QB while she was crossing?
one time i almost hit someone like that in brooklyn. the streetlights and the darkness make it really hard to see sometimes

  2. I take it you're assuming she wasn't jaywalking.

    1. This comment is almost as disgraceful as the accident itself. I hope it gets deleted promptly.

  4. how hard is it to catch this guy on Queens blvd. There are cameras everywhere.

    1. Yes, they caught the guy doing speed laps around Manhattan but you won't see anyone caught on this accident which occurred right down the block from where DA Brown lives. The cops are so lame.

  5. I agree that that is a horrible intersection - just like the yellowstone blvd/Jewel ave/queens blvd intersection on the north side of queens blvd. However, I also think our neighborhood has a high percentage of red light runners. I've observed many times where people downright run a red light or while waiting for the light to change, simply drive through it. Anybody else notice this?

    1. Yep. I've seen a lot of red light runners in the sort time I've been here. How much time do you really save by running a red light as compared to the additional risk of hitting someone? Ugh...

  6. Saddened, but not surprised. I was crossing yesterday, not far from where there was still police tape up and a woman turning from 71st onto QB heading towards Manhattan almost mowed me down. Broad daylight and I had 20 seconds left on the clock. I had to run to get out of her way. Just because you've been sitting at a red light, doesn't mean that you are entitled to plow through an intersection at any speed you want. I yelled at lady but she just gave me the "wha???" blank stare. How I wish I had a brick in my hand....and I know that sounds harsh, but she nearly hit me. Screw her.

  9. A: Pedestrians come out of nowhere and cross red lights all the time and almost get hit constantly.

Not surprised. Way too much nonsense traffic in this area. Lots of horrible drivers and also horrible pedestrians who cross right in front of a car with a green light.

Not like anything even significant goes on in this community and yet more and more people get thrown in the mix and chaos endures.

  10. Not being a wiseguy but what are the solutions? Better timing of lights so drivers don't need to stop as much, and at the same time longer red lights so pedestrians have more time to cross?

    2. everyone needs to follow the rules. i don't cross on red unless its all clear with no cars coming. drivers break the rules, but i also see a lot of pedestrians literally walk out in front of cars while the cars have a green light assuming they will stop.

my favorite is that short island where people are waiting to turn and a lot of times pedestrians will walk right in front of a car while the turn signal is green but not the crossing signal

    3. The pedestrians can be annoying there but the cars are far worse. Every single time I have crossed there, I have seen cars turning when they have a red turn signal and the pedestrians have a walk signal. Perhaps the drivers think that because the QB light is green, they can turn anyway. I wish traffic cops were posted there, they'd make a boatload on tickets.

  11. There have been boatloads of accidents in this area on a constant basis. Just never ends.

  12. Solutions: Better policing of the area. ARREST AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS and ARREST JAYWALKERS

If the polie arrested aggressive drivers and jay walkers then it would reduce the fatality rate immensely.

  13. Any problem can be solved if it is a priority. What makes me so angry is that local officials apparently believe pedestrians are not as important as car traffic is, even to the point that people are killed every so often at these intersections and nothing is done about it. And by the way, 40 or so seconds to walk across Queens Blvd.? Are you freakin' kidding me? How is an older person supposed to make it across in that short amount of time?

Solutions, if they really wanted to slow down these irresponsible drivers:
    - rumble strips
    - light speed bumps

    1. could be an eyesore for some but i would suggest a footbridge for the pedestrians. Queens Blvd is a busy street with a lot of cars turning from the "small" roads so it would make more sense to just separate the pedestrians from the cars. Also, no pressure for those who can't walk quickly or run to cross Queens Blvd.

    2. Rumble strips would solve nothing. What are you going to do - rumble strip all of Queens Blvd? It's not legal to put a speed bump in the middle of an intersection - nor a rumble strip.

And what solutions to you propose for the irresponsible jaywalkers?

    3. There is already an underpass which is part of the subway entrance. It's the same thing, just below ground rather than above. If people refuse to use the underpass, I can't imagine the overpass being any more popular.

    4. I feel like a lot of people do not realize this is an option.

  14. I've timed its about 35 secs to cross. This is the first death in a long time, no?

  15. the bottom line is we live with a major roadway running through our backyard and ppl and there are going to be accidents.

  16. Why hasn't NYPD put up an electronic Crime Stoppers sign on QBLVD yet???
One should have been put up immediately following this tragedy!

  17. Also note FH is a neighborhood with lots of seniors and children. How about cross guards at school hours? Foot bridge is not a bad idea, but where?...

    1. They can install the footbridge where the groceries, schools, and malls are. Basically where most of the foot traffic is.

  18. Agree with Kevin. Lots of NUTCASES crossing on the street. The area is full of lots of abusive folks and total idiots.

Forest Hills roads are like an obstacle course which never ends. Was out one day and some older man was attacking a school bus driver screaming he would report him.

If there is a NUT to be found in the world, they are located RIGHT HERE IN FOREST HILLS.

If I took a video camera I could document all the crap that goes on here and I could probably make a hit documentary. I should really get a hidden camera and record everything that goes on.

  19. Queens Boulevard is the wides boulevard in the world, there are bound to be accidents. Measures have been taken, the rails put up to discourage folks from crossing in the middle and adding parking along the service road to slow down speeding. Short of having an armed escort people across the street with a gun aimed at drivers, there's not much else that can be done. People need to take responsibility for where and when they cross and drivers need to not drive like they are on the highway. That said, there will continue to be accidents as long as people and drivers have to share the streets.

  20. Stop complaining and do something about it.
