One of Tuscan Hills' luscious pies... |
(Actually, the story says they are trying something quite exciting and new ... read on....)
New Italian-Style Bistro in Forest Hills Serving Up 'Pizza by the Inch'
The bistro will open at 110-60 Queens Blvd., replacing Just Like Mother’s, a Polish restaurant which closed last year.
Oh, and you know how I just tweeted yesterday how I think Queens Blvd. is the worst thing about living in Forest Hills? Well, increasingly not so much...
So very excited about this! Go Tuscan Hills! Now I am craving their lasagna... may have to change my dinner plans.
ReplyDeleteWhen one Ann Taylor closes, an Italian-style bistro opens! Should be interesting with both Portofino and Family half a block away but looking forward to having that space filled with a restaurant by the same people behind Tuscan Hills.
ReplyDeleteSounds like their concept will be different than either Family or Portofino, which are both old-school red-sauce Italian restaurants. Can't wait to see the menu.
ReplyDeleteExcellent news! Besides the original Tuscan location, the Italian food in this neighborhood is absolutely awful.
ReplyDelete"Pizza by the inch" is how they serve it in Italy.
ReplyDeleteDon't get the concept . New Yorkers have always had their pizza by the slice. Is this just a cost saving measure for the owners ? Wish them luck anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm particularly excited for the breakfast/coffee options.
ReplyDeleteThat area near the 75th ave subway stop needs a good place to get coffee/quick breakfast, not that acidic crap in the convenience stores at the subway entrances. Sorry everything tastes old and dry from those places.
I hope something just as wonderful opens in that empty bike shop too. that's been empty way too long.
it does look like there's been some movement/construction in the bike shop lately. they've at least cleaned up their windows a bit. i hope something opens there soon, too!
DeleteI love the name they chose, "Just Like Mama's".
ReplyDeleteYou didnt read this very closely, did you?
DeleteI'll keep an open mind and try it. But it will have to be spectacular to beat Nick's crust (and judging from the photo, it doesn't hold a candle. One single basil leaf in the middle? Am I supposed to chop/slice it myself, or just admire it?!).
ReplyDeleteStarbucks , please.
ReplyDeleteI'd love a Starbucks on that block! Even if it was too small to offer a sitting area, it would still be really convenient!
DeleteSounds good!
ReplyDeleteExcellent,Tuscan Hills has great food.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what will take the place of Ann Taylors?

DeleteThere was a restaurant in Manhattan that sold pizza by the inch but it never caught on. Unfortunately they closed. Pizza was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope the new pizza is good, and affordable. With all the recent closings on Austin St. can someone tell me how Barnes and Nobles manages to stay open? I was under the impression that most people orders their books online nowadays? How does such a big 2 floor store stay open?
ReplyDeleteB&N 's lease comes up in 2015. Look for one of the biggest vacancies to appear then.
DeleteSuch a shame if they close the B&N when their lease is up in 2015. A bookstore is such a nice addition to a community. There is something to be said about going to a nice quiet establishment and browsing for literature. Especially on the cold winter months with a nice cup of hot cocoa from Starbucks.

ReplyDeleteanyone else catch this puff piece in the daily news, seems like they always push the same places and leave the same one out..
Yay - I hope this area of FH (75th Avenue stop) gets more attention. There's a new fancy smancy nail salon opening up next to Kueka as well.
ReplyDeleteThat bike store has been vacant for years! Idiot move on the owner to increase rents for the tenant.
Instead of another Starbucks, would love to see a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf come to Queens!
