Cleaning Out the Inbox

A couple of observations from readers over the weekend:

- Apparently a dollar store has popped up on Yellowstone between Ingram & Juno, causing one reader to "almost crash my car" when he saw it. I don't blame him...

- Another reader is concerned that ABCO Locksmith, a long-time business on Austin, seems to have disappeared, with the space taken over by The Gold Standard next door. Does anyone know where ABCO disappeared to?

  1. I thought Abco had a note that they moved into that "shopping mall" on Continental near dunkin donuts where the spin place is.

  3. I saw that cheap God-awful sign by the new 99cent store on Yellowstone. I am sure there is something illegal with the size of it. Do the owners really think they will do any business there? It sits on a dead block with no foot traffic .

    1. A 99c store really isnt the worst thing that could've popped up in that quiet little corner on the "shady" part of Austin St. No one really goes there anyway. Since we no longer have a Staples, and I can't stand the Party store on Queens Blvd (looks they havent updated supplies since 1982), it's actually helpful to have a 99c store nearby for everyday random things like birthday and office supplies. Where else can you get a big birthday bag for a buck. Don't count on DR to provide that for you, the last time I went in for a birthday bag, they were charging $6! Maybe I'm cheap :)

    2. If you're cheap then I'm a closet millionaire.... $6 is quite ridiculous. That cvs better open soon.

    3. That's the reason having only one theater in the neighborhood when brandon closes will suck for everyone

    4. Lets hope we continue to have ONE for the long term. Heard some icky things about possible conversions from the buyers of the property in previous threads. That's a prime spot for yet another bank so shhhhhhh, lets give good ju ju to the one theater we have. People, go to the movies!!! haha

  6. One behind Gerard Towers I got a flyer for. All garbage. Useless space. But then again that whole building is useless and they pretend like they are doing construction to the building which never ends.

One could build a full highrise in quicker time than the expansion of that medical office building.

Can't comment on the sign on the new dollar store by Ingram and Yellowstone. Dollar stores are big money so it probably isn't a front. I don't go down by Ingram and Yellowstone at all.

  8. ABCO Moved around the corner in the Forest Hills Mini Mall... I heard that the landlord is not such a nice lady either.. One of the tennet's had termites and was out of his store for almost the whole month and was asked that he pay half of his rent because it "only seemed fair" She is also asking others to move out of their space because she like every other landlord feels that they now can get MORE rent out of people because of what These pop up health care centers are paying and corporate shops can afford. That place is not taken care of and sketchy at best. It's like she's a slum lord at best. Great Stores down in there though..

  9. The mini mall should be condemned.

  10. The expansion of Gold Standard strikes me as less than ideal for such a central location and I have always found the guy at the Locksmith to be very nice and helpful, including when I went a couple weeks ago in the new location. I hope the move and landlord work out okay and he sticks around.
