What's Up With? New Town Grocery

With Newtown Grocery (shown above a few years ago after an unfortunate mishap) apparently packing up shop, speculation has begun about what will be taking its place. The space is being marketed as "perfect for a corner cafe", with more than 1,000 square feet of space and, according to an ad I saw, would also include a couple of neighboring businesses. Some local folks believe it may be the up and coming coffee chain Caffe Bene that may move into the location. The chain has already opened a couple of locations in Astoria. And, as we all know, as the saying goes, "What's good for Astoria..."

  1. It does say Forest Hills on this page: http://www.caffebeneusa.com/locations/

  2. Thanks for pointing that out. It also seems to say "Coming Soon" in virtually every other neighborhood on earth.

  3. They have two stores in Mongolia. Why didn't we deserve the pleasure earlier?

  4. By the way, I didn't mean my comment to sound sarcastic. I assume that since they have Forest Hills on their list they will indeed be opening one here. And that is great news!

  5. We sure could use something aside from Starbucks. This may be another chain but still good to have choices. By the way, now that we have Chipotle, it would be awesome if Pret a Manger comes to FH.

  6. Sounds good. Anything that creates more foot traffic at that end of Austin Street is a plus for all other businesses over there. Now if we could only get rid of that putrid C-Town!

  7. The C-Town has a sign out front that they are under new management. Maybe that means someone will renovate that place.

  8. If this is true, then I'm very excited! That end of Austin has had too many closings, and not enough interesting, new openings in recent years.

  9. Nice corner. Too many supermarkets on that block.
