Forest Hills Gets an Indie Coffee Shop

Yes, finally.

It's called Red Pipe, and it's now open in the space where the former Stoa Jewelry store used to be at 7160 Austin St.

And guess what? They make a mean cappuccino!

It's a great addition to our neighborhood, and a long time in coming.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I visited. When the sign said it was going to be an organic cafe, I was expecting another food place. So was thrilled to see it's a coffee-focused establishment, just the type of place to kick back and relax, or spend some time with friends. Just what we needed...

Hours are 7 am to 10 pm, and they also sell breakfast, sandwiches and desserts...

  1. They are nice owners with good heads on their shoulders. There are with it. This is great news for FH!

  2. I walked past there this afternoon! I didn't go in, but I thought it looked a little cramped from the outside - I'm glad to see your positive review, though! It gives me a renewed sense of hope!

  3. Stopped by today. Had the mediterranean sandwich and an ice coffee. Really enjoyed both. Will definitely go back as they add items to the menu.

  4. I spent a few hours there Saturday afternoon. The owners were very gracious and offered sandwich samples several times. The coffee, by Counter Culture, was excellent. It's nice to be able to get a high end "indie" cup of java without having to drag over to Blue Bottle or Grumpy in Brooklyn or Manhattan. I will be a regular. I wish them all the best..

  7. FINALLY! So excited to have a choice other than Dunkin and Starbucks!

  8. Very happy about this especially being it is local and the fact the two closest Starbucks don't have enough seats.

  9. If you want to sit down in a Starbucks, you'll have to go to densely populated Manhattan for that (logic + illogic = reality).

  13. I passed by at 1:00 Thursday and the place was empty. I just ordered a latte to go. Spoke to one of the owners. They have high hopes and I wish them well. They have an oversized tip bowl on the counter. I looked in about an hour later and there was nobody inside again. Hopefully they pick up at night and on weekends.

  16. Stopped in to look around and ended up having a Mediterranean Veggie chibatta and a banana strawberry smoothie. I really enjoyed it. And they did a great job creating a wonderful atmosphere for their new store. Spread the word!

  18. Went there this morning around 11am with a friend. We had Cortado and americano with a cheese cake.
The vibe is really nice, friendly staff. We sat there a couple of hours. Saw a couple of people with macbook sitting there working. About a dozen customers when we were there.

Good addition to the neighborhood. I wish them well.
