Received this email from a reader, can anyone help her?
I was wondering if you could do a post about where to buy a live Christmas tree in the area. I've gotten mine from the guys who set up shop at the deli on the corner of Ascan and Austin for the past few years, but now that it's closed, I'm guessing they won't be there anymore. Any and all super-local suggestions would be greatly appreciated by someone who has to carry a tree home by herself!
I saw trees for sale, on Sunday, outside the renovated C-Town on Austin.
ReplyDeleteOmg, this is so strange! I was JUST thinking about writing in and asking the exact same question!
ReplyDeleteSo...does anyone have any good suggestions? (Keeping in mind that I don't drive?)
A bit of a trek but here are closest suggestions: Metro Av across from Trader Joes, under the railroad overpass; Florist Hills nursery at Woodhaven Blvd next to Yellowstone Blvd; Home Depot; Fruit and Veg market on Queens Blvd near 67 Rd.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if they still set up shop there or it will be convenient for this particular reader but I remember seeing live Christmas trees being sold at the auto mechanic shop along Metropolitan Ave and 70th Dr this time of the year
ReplyDeleteHate to say it but home depot is your best, affordable bet! We bought ours there for $36 on Saturday. Saw almost identical size, height- fraser fir- for $80 on Austin the next day! Book an hour long zipcar and you're still saving money going that route. I know we should support the small businesses, but sometimes the only way to do that is saving $44 on a tree at Home Depot and spending that $44 on lunch at Red Pipe!
ReplyDeleteWe got our tree from the C-Town on Austin St. last year. I assume they'll be selling again. This year we decided to splurge and ordered a tree from http://nyctrees.com/. All orders include delivery, installation and tree stand. They've gotten good reviews. Our tree will be delivered next week, so I'll be sure to post on the quality. Looks like a nice tree on their site. Happy Holidays! Hope you find a great tree!
ReplyDeleteI just checked out that website and WOW. Expensive! I think it's a fantastic business idea, but why does it have to be so pricey?
DeleteI hope your tree is beautiful! I look forward to hearing your thoughts about it and maybe seeing a photo!
C Town has trees too.
ReplyDeleteSaw a few trees for sale at the little market outside the subway at 67 Avenue, on the south side of QB. The trees looked small, though. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that Natural is also selling trees this year, no doubt taking a cue from the closing of the bodega across the street.
ReplyDeletestop everything. i found a gem in forest hills. a real gem. a movie-esque dream christmas tree lot straight out of a glee episode. my boyfriend and i carried the tree 1.6 miles home and it was 100% worth it. the owner is amazing and the tree is fresh and perfect. staff were delightful. check it out! http://www.annestreeland.com
