New Bake Shop Coming to Austin St.

I believe this is in the former space where that little Mexican / Chinese food combo place used to be. Looks like it could be a cute little place...

  2. Too much of a coincidence that there is another violets in queens? Could this be another location for them?

  3. It's a gutsy move where there are three - no four - bakeries within two blocks.

    1. And right next door to a failed business that was very similar to a bakery...

      Good Luck!

    2. i am surprised nobody is crying about that dump on austin st. losing business because of this... what a crock. dunkin donuts moves in and the people are in uproar because it will crush said bakery. we have four bakeries in one area and nobody says anything.

  4. I think we have enough bakeries in the neighborhood already. But at least it's not a cell phone shop or urgent care center!

  5. I can't believe something is finally opening up in that section of Austin Street! Seriously - there are sooo many empty store fronts over there.

This looks like it might be really cute. Fingers crossed!

  7. Cool. Just not sure how much it's needed, a stone throws aw from Le Boulangerie. I hope their product is a lot different.

    1. We can have both. There are a lot of empty spaces to fill on this street!

    2. I am dying for us to be cool enough for Ramen....

    3. Try Tokyo Teriyaki next to the police station. They don't specialize in ramen, but they do have it there and it's not bad. If you go there and decide to get something else instead, they are known for their curry katsu over rice

  9. Ramen? You would need lines out the door all day long to afford the $15k monthly rent! Ramen is so yesterday.

  10. Lol I kinda have to agree with the OP . Ramen is so yesterday but hey u never kno plenty of hipsters moving in the hood so maybe it would work . Or how about an authentic Chinese noodle shop with small eats too?

    1. How about just a half decent sit down Chinese place? We don't have that and have t since the place on Restaurant Row closed (now The Grill).

  11. There is East Ocean Palace on Queens Blvd.

  12. East Ocean has been cited numerous time by the Board of Health. They had a 'C' rating recently , but they hid the sign out of customers view. I don't trust a business that does this and would never patronize it.

  13. I hope they have gluten-free / day-free options! Red Pipe always runs out and when I asked Martha's they told me not their concern!!

  14. What's with the surge in bake shops around here all of a sudden? BTW, the rent for this new storefront is somewhere about $5k per month which isn't too bad.

  15. Samis Sandwich Shop couldn't even make it and went out after barely 3 years.

    1. "Even," as in that's a surprise? I can make better sandwiches at home. They had Boar's Head meats. Quality, dude or dudette, quality makes it here. Just look around you at what is thriving? La Boulangerie, for instance, right across the street from Samis. Why? Quality.

  16. A Xian Famous Foods would be nice...

  17. Not that great. The lady behind the counter never offered me an apology for getting me the wrong pastry and for charging me the wrong price. Plus, the pastry I got (Mango Pudding) was bland. I should have gone to La Boulangerie where they have more of a selection, don't yell over your shoulder at their co-worker because they forgot the price of an item and where they actually attempt to provide good customer service.

Also, no need to waste a plastic sandwich container for to-stay items. I took the Mango Pudding right out of it and tossed it across the table. The clean container ended up in the trash after I was done. A paper plate would have sufficed, would've been cheaper and would've saved space in the garbage bin.

  18. The baked goods are not all natural so who knows what is in them...also the amount of PLASTIC they use and waste is disturbing. Fake food in plastic. Yum!

  19. I went to this bakery today for the first time and my husband and I liked it a lot. They had a small but deliciously tempting array of sweets and breads there, like green tea mochi with coconut shavings on top, or their really tasty hotdog bread! we were sooooo happy we walked in because everything we tasted was delicious! I hope he cracks ago at melon bread, it would be great to have some fresh baked available in the neighborhood.

  20. Forget bakeries. . .We need a salad place, like Just Salads. Dying for a good salad place.

  21. I purchased their chocolate mousse cake @3.50 per slice. The topping was cool whip and the cake base tasted like a gelatin with very little chocolate flavor. I always like to try new shops because I have an open mind. In this case I felt the cake was poorly made and expensive. I don't plan to return here.
