Corner of Restaurant Row & Austin St.

The going-out-of-business signs caught my eye a couple of months ago and now things are really getting going: some big-time development going in at the corner of Austin Street and Restaurant Row. I know originally the yogurt place was supposed to be turned into some type of Mediterranean grill. Does anyone know if that is still what is happening? It sure would be one mammoth Mediterranean grill if so, since there are now two adjacent storefronts that are part of this development...

  1. I'm not well versed with big real estate purchases etc but could this be a possibility?:

Who ever bought the 2 storefronts, bought them with the intent to rent it out to one tenant for a # of years, so property gains value over time.

Then when that lease is up, kick out the tenant, sell property to a big developer who would then knock these structures out to build x-story glass residential building.

Remember when a developer tried to build a 6-7 story mix use building in the space where Santa Fe once was? If I were a greedy developer that's what I would do.

But I could be going off the deep end of that conspiracy pool.

  2. According to the Forest Hills NYC group on Facebook, it's going to be a Turkish restaurant.

  3. Hopefully not another urgent care facility.
