Paul Revere probably never actually said "The British are coming!" during his famous ride, since the Colonists were still actually British subjects and that would have been kinda confusing, right?  Historians say he actually alerted everyone "The Redcoats are coming!" or "The Regulars are coming out!" (Regulars meaning the British army.)
