They were installing the elevator entrance at the 71st/Continental Ave. subway station last evening.
Also, by the way, I noticed the construction has finally begun on the 7-Eleven right across from this, next to the Red Mango.
And speaking of convenience stores, I received yet another confirmation yesterday that it will in fact be a CVS going into the ground floor of the new Aston building, next to the Key Food.

When completed, the taxi stand will be pushed back from it's long-time location , toward the center of the block. Safer...
ReplyDeleteAnd less convenient.
DeleteOMG. theres no need for a 7-11. there goes the neighborhood...
ReplyDeleteSome of the newer formats are really nice, so don't be so quick to judge.
DeleteThere's nothing wrong with a 7-11; they serve their purpose.
Delete7-11 is yet another chain store that will be a good fit for FH! Affordable drinks, snacks, etc 24 hours is a great convenience to have.
DeleteAnd I just discovered 7-11's coffee bar this past summer. It is actually great...and a lot of fun.
DeleteAmnience on austin st is no longer, not that it ever was. And they're working on the new burger place where Diva used to be. twist'd and smash'd
ReplyDeleteA CVS? That's...very disappointing. It's such a great location; they could've done something really interesting with it!
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteThere is a 7- Eleven on the LIE service road on the westbound side between 108th St and Junction Blvd
ReplyDeleteThere is also another 7-11 in FH on Queens Blvd., corner of 103rd St. Now, let's get a Denny's or IHOP to open in the hood! Hey, I'll even be happy for a Friendlys or Red Robin :)
ReplyDeleteThere used to be a Red Robin over near Union Turnpike; it closed about ten years ago. I had my ninth birthday there. :)
DeleteLast I looked, there's a 7-11 on Metropolitan Ave by TDBank
DeleteHow long has that MTA construction been going on!? About time they finish up...
ReplyDeleteStarted Feb 2012 and if ending this month is one year overdue from the original estimate. This kind of waste is where your metro card dollars are going and when you vote pro union.
DeleteThe signs stated anticipated completion would be in 2014 - so if it's done soon - it's actually ahead of schedule!
DeleteThat sign is misleading. It's been changed. The original was supposed to be sometime in Fall 2013.
DeleteDennys? Friendlys? Keeping it classy...
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I know, right? If you want to live near a Denny's so badly, move to New Jersey, pal.
DeleteA Dave & Busters type arcade would be a great addition to our area. I hope potential businesses are reading this blog, lots of good ideas that would be lucrative are mentioned.
ReplyDeleteThat's not an elevator . It's one of Starbucks new coffee kiosks being tested in FH.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad CVS is coming. The one on Metropolitan is too far. Although Rite Aid and Duane Reade are RIGHT THERE. I'm not too sure about 7-11. I'd prefer an Apple Store. haha
ReplyDeleteRite Aid and Duane Reade are on the south side of Queens Blvd, as is another Rite Aid a few blocks east. The only chain store of this nature in the area on the north side is the Walgreen's several blocks west of Continental. It will be convenient to those on the north side of the Blvd to have a chain store of this type on the north side. Will be interesting to see if it will be open 24/7, like Duane Reade and Rite Aid.
DeleteAs to the Subway Elevator; are they not putting one in on the other side of Queens Blvd? I guess someone figured out that the disabled are better at crossing 10 lanes of traffic then able bodied people!
ReplyDeleteI believe ADA compliance requires only one elevator be available. Since there's more foot traffic and real estate one the south side, it's the only logical space.
DeleteThere was no conceivable space on the north side of QB to install such a large structure.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough there is plenty of foot traffic on the north side.... Many however cross over to the southside to shop and eat.
ReplyDeleteLooks like this won't be done by the end of the month. 25 months and counting...
