What's Up With Greenline Organic?

My reporter shot these pics today of the inside of the relatively new Greenline Organic store on Austin St., wondering why the shelves were so bare? He has been of the opinion that they would have a tough time making a go of it here in Forest Hills given the immense popularity of Natural and Natural's size and selection given that Greenline is quite smaller. I have also noticed that Greenline has seemed to really limit their selection in recent months. But I wonder what is up with the bare shelves? Are they getting ready to close?

  1. Maybe they're so busy they can't keep up with demand? Nah. They must be paying a heavy price each month for that small space. A place like that can't survive on Austin.

  2. They also have almost no organics in the store! Very disappointing.

  3. I have to agree on this store being a big disappointment. I still feel like there is a big opportunity for another store focusing on fresh produce to come in to the area (especially if it's organic or focused on local producers). I know how much everyone loves The Natural ... it's where I do most of my shopping too, for lack of other options. With that said, I feel that their organic produce selection is less than stellar.
How about a store that is more like a mini farmers market? Have the vendors selling at Union Squarer supplying the goods. I'd shop there in a sec.

They are no longer open 24 hours and have not been for the past few months.

  5. Unfortunately, it was telling back when we had the snowstorm: Natural had a line to pay that stretched partway around the store. At the same time, Greenline was absolutely empty.

  6. There's also that beautiful new 24 hours gourmet/organic market nearby in Rego Park on 63rd Dr and Queens Blvd. i think it replaced the Hollywood Video and believe it's called Fresh Value Market. Been open for about more then a year now and it's always filled with products at competitive prices. I do all my shopping there as its cheap, clean, and big. Highly recommend the place!
