Gloria Pizza's New Sign

I really like the new sign Gloria Pizza's put up, next to the Midway Theater. To me it seems to fit the location really well. And they smartly made it very visible during the night along Queens Blvd. My (blurry) pic at the bottom was shot from across the street. I'm still not sure when they're opening. Word was possibly this month. Now that they have the sign up, they are one step closer, so soon...

  3. Aside from Nicks, the pizza in forest hills is Bleh. The best is Dani's in Kew Gardens. Yumm!!

  4. The owner said that they may be opening next week. He didn't seem 100% on that. PS: Dani's Pizza is terrible. Who wants sugar in their pizza?

  5. I guess 130 reviewers on yelp enjoy sugar in their sauce. As do I. Lighten up, guy.

  6. I really like Dani's in Kew G... Portofino on Ascan is really good too. AJ's thumbs down. Umm, sugar in the pizza?? no, its called a nice sweet sauce..and I happen to like a sweet/spicy sauce pizza. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think many people would disagree with your opinion that its terrible

  7. Absolutely FH needs another pizza place. Other then Nicks the pizza in FH is awful and these kitchens cant even manage to get higher then a B grade during their inspections. Go read why these places have gotten violations ..at least 2 in the area because they dont provide soap and water for their staff to wash their hands with after using the toilet..gross!

I hope that Glorias will be good and I hope they deliver..FH has zero delivery pizza options :(

    1. I really think that's an exaggeration.. I happen to really like the pizza from both Tuscan Hills and Portofino, both of which deliver. I haven't been to Dani's in Kew yet, but it's on my list to try.

  8. I ate at the place that used to be there. Food quality wasn't so great but it was local and they accepted credit cards so I would stop in occasionally.

Turns out everyone quit going there I guess and they couldn't make profit margins to stay afloat. Prolly rent was too high.

I don't expect outstanding food quality at a pizza place next to the movies.

But if Gloria's has a better quality of food and has equal or lower costs, then perhaps it will succeed.

    1. Gloria's has decades of history behind it. If the food quality is anything near what it was back in its heyday in Flushing, it will do extremely well. It always disgusts me that the pizza by the slice places in FoHi have the pizzas sitting out, awaiting a reheat. No wonder they get B ratings while perishables sit out waiting for some poor souls who have no better options for a slice to eat it up. The old Gloria's never had pizza sitting or reheat, all the slices come from fresh out of the oven pies (don't know how they managed, my guess is the pizza sold so fast that they never had to sit out). It makes a huge difference, never mind the delicious recipe. I always feel sorry for people who are happy with the FoHi pizza by the slice options because I know they don't know how good pizza can be. Hopefully Gloria's is as good as it used to be and will school the other pizza places as to what pizza should taste like. For reference, nicks comes close to what Gloria's tasted like except Gloria's did not use fresh mozz, rather the shredded kind, the sauce was a bit thicker (though the taste is similar) and the crust was a tad crisper without being burnt.

    1. You again? The last pizza place was absolute crap and they were open for at least a year if not more. The problem wasn't the location, it was the businesses that opened there. There is so much hype over Gloria's even after it had been retired for two decades, which should tell you something. If a slop place like AJ's can stay open with their reheated pizza, I'd say Gloria should do well.

  10. I totally vote for any new pizza joint that shakes things up on Austin. As a former Astorian, I miss having so many great places to eat. FH has many elderly people whose tastebuds are too easily satisfied. I am cheering my new nabe to catch up!
