Here's a pic as they were setting up the booths this morning:
And Susan on the blog's Facebook page reports:
FABULOUS turnout early this morning and a great selection of vendors. I came home with a bounty of heirloom tomato's, Swiss Chard, Arugula, free range eggs, lamb chops and honey from the Upper East Side in Manhattan.

Looks like it is off to a great start.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty crowded by 10am when we got there and the bread alone vendor was almost completely sold out.
We were surprised and disappointed to see no fruit whatsoever though. hope the vendors are better stocked now that they see the neighborhood is enthusiastic.
Also disappointed that there was no fruit, especially considering they had listed an orchard fruit vendor to be there. Hopefully, this will be something ironed out in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to see the vendors very happy to be there and asking about future things to bring.
I've sent an email to my contacts at GrowNYC to inquire about why there were no fruit vendors there today. I see there was indeed one listed who was supposed to be there:
DeleteTerhune Orchards Orchard fruit from Dutchess County, New York
Maybe they just couldn't make it for some reason. In any case, I'll let you know what I find out.
They tell me Terhune Orchards will be there next Sunday, FYI. So we shall have fruit!
DeleteI spoke with Zoe, the Forest Hills Greenmarket Manager, and she was blown away by today's turnout, and felt it was a great indicator of what a wonderful community we have here in Forest Hills.
ReplyDeleteZoe will be working to bring in more vendors. We can always find reasons to be disappointed, by I feel like this was simply a tremendous success.
Today's lunch consisted of heirloom tomatoes, arugula and honey, all purchased at the greenmarket. Dinner will be lamb chops and Swiss Chard that I purchased there as well.
No disappointment here. Just pure, unadulterated happiness!
Thanks to all those who showed up!!
This is all really promising. I just posted to Sustainable Forest Hills' facebook page. It would be great if turnout continues and offerings expand, also, for them to have composting, maybe delivered to the Queens Botanical Garden?
ReplyDeletepickles would be a great option too
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing some fruit next week!
The organic meats people had pickles! Not a huge selection but it's something.
DeleteEnjoyed it very much and glad to hear the organizers were pleased with the turnout.
ReplyDeleteMy one question is whether or not this is the best FoHi location, particularly if it grows. Setting-wise would love to see this put in the brick covered courtyard right outside of the train stop next to the Forest Hills Inn.
Oh I will check the meat people for pickles next week
ReplyDeleteI think the location is great..convenient for people on both sides of QB :)
Did anyone notice the honey guy was nasty? I was walking by and he was yelling at an elderly lady then barked at another potential customer that he was on the phone with his dad!
Andrew (from Andrew's Honey) couldn't have been more pleasant to me when I was at his booth, seemed very nice to the other folks around while I was checking out his product.
