Buffalo Wild Wings Coming to Forest Hills

Thanks to Corey, one of the blog's readers, for spotting this ad on Craigslist: Buffalo Wild Wings - Restaurant Delivery Manager (Based in Forest Hills)
We had heard weeks back that they had leased the Staples location. I just emailed a representative for the chain yesterday about it, but hadn't heard back yet.

  1. UGH Worst idea ever.

I don't think this neighborhood needs a place like this. Gross

  2. For me personally, I can't say that I'm thrilled about this.

We already have a (non-chain) Sports Bar in the neighborhood and the idea of a bar right on the corner of 71st and Continental doesn't thrill me from a commuter perspective.

Was really hoping so much more for that space.

  3. Ugh is right. Three bars are already opening up and now this. Is Austin St. turning into Williamsburg?

    1. I wish it was like Williamsburg , in that they have local interesting places. Not chains like buffalo wild wings. This place is one step above hooters....and barely.
Forest hills....1 step forward, 2 steps back

    2. You say "Williamsburg" like it's a bad thing. Have you property values in Wiliamsburg?

    3. Williamsburg. Overbuilt. Shoddy Construction. Heavily Polluted. And wait until you see how flooded the market will be once all the tax abatements come near a close. Values will go down. Only things going for it are its proximity to Manhattan and the artist community. Oh wait they are all priced out and moving the the 'burbs.

      And a potential dirty bomb.

    5. Williamsburg is the biggest cesspool of useless transplants that come and go, i think alot higher of Forest hills.

    6. Me too. I visit friends there and every time am glad I don't live there. Not only is it ugly and dirty, but it is actually quite dangerous in terms of muggings and robberies. A mom got held at gunpoint while strolling her baby for her Iphone.

  4. That is a big space that most non-chain stores/restaurants wouldn't take over. Would you rather a fairly upscale chain with a very good beer selection take that over or for it to linger as an empty space in the heart of the neighborhoood? Simple solution to all of you who complain about chains in the neighborhood - don't go.

    1. Upscale, that's a first! All kidding aside, I was brought to one of these places in Kansas City this past Fall. It was actually a fun place to watch Football and they had a decent selection of beer and "bar food". I've done game day on Austin Street and it can not compare to this. I enjoy watching football in a sports bar, but In the past I would stay in my man-cave with my 60" and Bang & Olufson sound system before I would go back to Austin Street of football. This would be a game changer. I would also say this place is a step up from Santa Fe & Fridays; but that's not saying much. Now would I go there on a Tuesday night for dinner, no.

  5. I have mixed feelings about this. I have been thinking we could use a wings place in the area, and this is certainly a cut above Wings world or something like that..but I do not want this area turning into a bell blvd or something like that. Also, much of the clientele will be from outside the immediate area. And yes, I am saying that is a bad thing! But maybe not for the reasons you think.

  6. wild wings chain doesn't always have the most behaved clientele. i just don't want to see a bunch of teens overrunning that area.

    disappointing.

  7. You have to go through the ground floor to get to the level above. Staples had its copy center on the ground floor.

A wing place in Forest Hills is a good concept in that location. But the whole notion of going up the escalator is lame.

I wonder what will happen with the ground space.

  8. I e-mailed BWW a few days ago and they responded that they are hoping to open on or about June 30.

As far as empty space lingering, no big deal with this space, as it's upstairs and at least would not be an empty ground-level, eye-level space.

  9. National Warehouse Outlet was looking at this space too. Glad they turned away and we are getting something palatable and long term . More foot traffic. More competition.

  10. Very disappointing!

Helen Marshall's office was working to secure this space for "The Forest Hills Center for the Performing Arts and Geraldine Ferraro Theater".

    1. I'm with you, the last thing we need is Helen Marshall wasting our tax dollars on infrastructure that we can't afford and the city will only neglect.

    2. That comment about the performing arts center was a joke by the way.

  11. Impossible. There is nothing left of a theater here. They would have to start from scratch and rebuild one if anyone wanted to create a "performance center" it would have cost $millions.

  12. Work for old viennas transformation has begun. The owner also owns the cuckoos nest in woodside. Also went to keuka kafe and had the cheese and meat plate which iwas very good. The place was busy. Nice ppl running it. Amd aminence is still closed. I checked :)

  13. The difference is Williamsburg welcomes chefs. Forest Hills invites chains. How could anyone get excited over a wing joint? This local mentality keeps the entrepeneurs away and not opening places that are unique and dedicated to providing a special experience.

  14. Boulangerie, Danny Brown, Il Poeta, Jack and Nellies, Nicks, Sushi Yasu, Agora to name a few. Sorry the difference is that we are under the radar. Williamsburg is super trendy now. The chefs are going where the hype is. But to argue that we invite only chains is wrong. Check out the Eatery Row blog and you will see that we are not only inviting chains.

  15. problem is forest hills residents cry over the prices of everything so no one wants to open here. remember when bareburger opened and people were whining over the prices? if you cant find the posts here just go check out yelp.

  16. Good food is worth paying $$$ for, so for you cheapskates out there who are happily eating your way to cancer just to save a few bucks, have fun with that. I would rather see fewer clothing stores (everything is made in China and is worth crap) and more artisan food places.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree! You are what you eat. People are stuffing themselves with over processed foods and wonder why they are so fat.

  18. Why are we giving China so much business? They hold a ton of our debt and now are hacking into our computers to steal intellectual propery. Their military is doing most of the hacking. Scary stuff! Buy locally made. Quality over quantity.

    2. Yes, I peeked in a week or so ago as I was walking by and it looked like they were rebuilding it for some type of office space.

  22. It's upstairs, hidden from the street, and the ones in Long Island are fun to watch games in, eat some wings and drink some beers. Will certainly be coming here for college football in the fall.
