Yes, I Had Some Wings...

I took the plunge and tried some of them new Buffalo Wild Wings.

Well, let's see, I liked them, I mean REALLY liked them—for like the first 20 minutes. Quite tasty. And then, once the hunger subsided and my body came to terms with what I had just eaten, I realized I would not be back for quite a while. But then again, I'm no college student anymore! I have reached an age where I have to be concerned about, umm,: my weight, my blood sugar, my sodium intake, cholesterol, oh, heck, just about everything!

But, hey, if you happen to be of chicken wings-eating age (oh, say 21 and under), go get 'em, they sure are tasty! But for me, the way I look at it, Friday's, Applebee's, any of these huge restaurant chains, they're all pretty much the same. And really, for me, what's important is eating as healthy as possible. I think I'll stick with Banter and one of their scrumptious salads or sandwiches. Just had the shrimp in a pita for lunch today. Awesome!

Oh, and one other thing, they definitely picked the right location for Buffalo Wild Wings. That place was PACKED this afternoon, right around 5p.m., during a heat wave no less. Any other location in Forest Hills, like on Austin, and this place just would not fit in. But right next to the subway—it's a no-brainer. Smart!

Inside Buffalo Wild Wings

Don't know if the food is any good, but the place really is quite spectacular. Hard to believe this was that Staples! I didn't even know they had all this space up there. I guess a lot of the Staples must've been storage space that we never got to see.

Anyway, if you're in the mood to take a mini-trip to Atlantic City without leaving Forest Hills, then this is the place for you. I felt like I was in a freakin' Casino, it's that enormous! And this place must have a built-in following or something, 'cause when I went in there around 5 today it was already hopping!

Flying High

The Buffalo Wild Wings sign is, anyway... Here are a couple of shots of their new sign on what used to be the Forest Hills Theater. I wonder how many people walking along 71st Continental Ave. these days even realize that this building, which now houses a Duane Reade and the soon-to-open Buffalo Wild Wings chain restaurant, used to be a grand old movie house?

In any case, the new Buffalo Wild Wings sign is quite a bit of overkill if you ask me. It's sad enough that this beautiful theater (see photo below, courtesy of the website Cinema Treasures) had to close its doors years ago and become a drugstore, Staples and now a chain restaurant, but does its beautiful historical facade have to be defaced by such loud signage? I'm all for new businesses opening here, don't get me wrong—as long as they respect the character of the neighborhood. Maybe I could understand signs like these way up high if the building had exposure to Queens Blvd, where many people could notice it. But this new sign can only be seen from across the street...

See more photos of the old theater at this Rego-Forest Preservation Council photoset site.

Buffalo Wild Wings Opening Date

As good a way as any to find out I guess. You'd think maybe they'd put this up on the door of the place, too. Luckily my eagle-like eyes are on the job for you guys!

Wings Almost Ready to Fly

As Buffalo Wild Wings rushes to complete its new Forest Hills location I noticed they seem to have dedicated the street level portion to a separate entrance just for take-out. Now I could be wrong, and they're just advertising their tasty take-out capability on the doors below. But given how that space is set up, I am thinking it's a dedicated take-out space, kinda like what Junior's Times Square does. (Awesome place btw, if you haven't gone.) Every once in a while along comes a restaurant in FoHi that seems to really get it. And BWW is definitely off to a good start. Because if New Yorkers like one thing, it's take out! BWW's massive space makes it easier for them to do this, but boy how I wish some of our really excellent local restaurants would do the same. Isn't it annoying when you go to pick some food up at a restaurant and you feel like a pariah being forced to go stand in a corner while everyone's dining around you?

Buffalo Wild Wings Signs

A portion of 71st Continental Ave. was transformed yesterday into 'Buffalo Wild Wings Land' as our newest restaurant chain unveiled its signage, visible from the space shuttle by the way. (Kidding about that last part, but they do seem a bit, how can I put it, loud?)

Coming Soon: Buffalo Wild Wings

We've known about it for a while, but the sign is now up at the old Staples location on 71st Continental Ave.

Buffalo Wild Wings, Some Thoughts

I was reading all the comments about Buffalo Wild Wings. Personally, I think the former Staples location is fine for it. I'm not very excited about another sports bar coming into FoHi, though I do love my chicken wings, so I'm looking forward to that part of it. But if they're going to open a place like this somewhere in FoHi, then this really is the perfect spot. 71st/Continental, especially near the subway station, is already kinda downscale and grimy. This, if anything, should improve that a little bit since it's a big restaurant chain.

Buffalo Wild Wings Coming to Forest Hills

Thanks to Corey, one of the blog's readers, for spotting this ad on Craigslist: Buffalo Wild Wings - Restaurant Delivery Manager (Based in Forest Hills)
We had heard weeks back that they had leased the Staples location. I just emailed a representative for the chain yesterday about it, but hadn't heard back yet.
