Deep Fried Snickers And Craft Beer At Forest Hills Station House
Deep Fried Snickers And Craft Beer At Forest Hills Station House
"The elevated pub grub menu has some inventive takes on classic bar food."
the sign for buffalo wild wings is going up!
ReplyDeleteThis place has gotten to be one big food fest.
ReplyDeleteAnd the media just keeps yapping about Station House.
I am not against restaurants opening up if there are customers for them. But Station House is NOT the biggest thing I've ever seen since coming here. It is a bar with food with a nice theme across the LIRR so instead of some crappy Mexican food in a low class joint, you can get a nice drink and much better food in a nicer environment.
I am all for it, and if the business owners are making good money on this venture it is all good. The signage and interior environment from the photos I've seen really do make that depressing section of Forest Hills that much livelier.
But as to why everyone keeps talking about how many new places Station House is getting mentioned in, just seems like overkill.
Never mind the photos and signage; go try for yourself and you will experience what the fuss is about.
DeleteStation House has hired a publicist to plant all these stories on the various blogs and papers. Why else would Gothamist write about a little start up with average fare? Not even Danny Brown's, the crown jewel of FOHI, get this press. Don't believe the hype.
ReplyDeleteApparently you haven't been to SH. It's far from average. But I agree with what you said about much of the coverage -- though not all -- being coordinated and not organic.
DeleteAgreed. I would go so far to guess that whoever owns the place has someone close to them in PR who was able to get the magazines to take notice because of their contacts list. It's a good thing for the restaurant's business so I won't judge, but it does get a little silly when a place in FH is getting a write up in STAR.
DeleteYes, sadly it is a bit much when Star mag. is covering it. Be more sophisticated with your "media" selections please. They are on the verge of seeming desperate and cheapening the brand. I suspect a very young and overly ambitious PR person. There is no finesse to this campaign.
ReplyDeleteTo whoever is hating on the press coverage, just shut up and try it yourself. Be glad that another good option is around among some of the lame establishments here.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is that difficult to curate what media you are going to select to market your bar. I think the coverage is terrific, just wish a little more thought had been put into it. That said all of this attention is great for Forest Hills in general as well as Station House.
ReplyDeleteWould you say Station House is kid/family-friendly? We live in Kew Gardens and used to go to Austin's Steak and Ale House regularly, but since we had worse than usual service there last time, I'm thinking we might try another place.
ReplyDeleteI'd say it depends when you go. Happy Hours, probably not. Too crowded. But other times, for a relaxing light lunch, grab a comfy table in the back and it's like any other restaurant. And the service is super-friendly.
DeleteOh, and while I have you, and since I haven't been to Kew Gardens in a while, did they ever reopen what I considered one of the finest restaurants in the entire area? Mood? Lord how I miss that spectacular restaurant!
DeleteNot the original commenter but no Mood is (and has been for a while) closed forever. The head cook from Mood works at the Flying Pig now.
DeleteGod Bless Station House and its Publicist. As Drake has been screaming for years, we live in a country that e elected a president who had more words published in GQ Magazine then he had published in the Congressional Record or the Illinois House Ledger during his combined legislative career.
