Wow 10 stories and 120 feet tall! That building is going throw a huge chunk of lovely Mcdonnell's Park in total shade for ever. What a shame and lose for the community.
The rendering looks a bit like a shorter version of The Windsor. I just hope they put something useful on the ground floor- like a Whole Foods! Please, no pharmacy or bank!
I thought about the shadow casting too. But it shouldn't impact MacDonald Park too much. Look at lush and green Bryant Park which is surrounded by 50 storey skyscrapers. I'll look into this anyway.
Can't say I'd miss that particular bunch of shops, definitely nothing I would walk there specifically for. If you miss the Chinese party shop, try the one on Austin (Party R Us) - they're pretty good if that's your thing. What else was there? Piu Bello? Didn't they have that suspicious fire awhile back and not reopen? Very forgettable strip of stores, in this case change might be good, hopefully in the form of a nice Whole Foods.
It's not about ownership; it's about feeling comfortable moving about the neighborhood. We're already overcrowded because we're apparently the go-to destination for many of the surrounding communities.
"because we're apparently the go-to destination for many of the surrounding communities." which is very important to the local business and your real estate value. Because of all these "overcrowding", financially, it becomes possible that you are able to trade your 2 bed apartment in FH for a nice little house somewhere not crowded.. right?
It's interesting you say that. I saw the developers name for that other building going up (by the now closed Key Food) and emailed them months ago telling them what a great place that would be for Whole Foods. I never heard back so who knows but I like to think one of these days we will get one here.

ReplyDeleteAnd the shops on that block, all of them will disappear I'm guessing? No more Piu Bello? Dangit.

ReplyDeleteAgree on these are forgettable shops but Whole Foods will be a very long shot.
DeleteThat space would be big enough for like... one department of a Whole Foods.
DeleteOh thank heavens, more people clogging our streets, we just did not have enough before!
ReplyDeleteDo existing residents "own" Forest Hills anymore than the new comers?
DeleteGood question :) Thank you.

DeleteWell in a few years they can all go relax in the middle of Queens Blvd in the linear park and watch busses go by.
ReplyDeleteNot bad
ReplyDeleteParker towers could become Condo's soon too.
ReplyDelete"The Parker family’s vast multifamily holdings could have a second life as condos."
"The projected sellouts are $202.5 million for 432 of the apartments at Parker Towers, documents show."
