Restaurant Row Update

So, with the opening of the marijuana dispensary, Curaleaf (looking quite chic, by the way, in the photo below), in the former Santa Fe bbq location (something permanent, finally) and Orangetheory Fitness in half of the former Pizzeria Uno (thanks to Amanda on Twitter for sending that pic in), I think that leaves just one spot left to be taken on Restaurant Row.
By the way, will Curaleaf drop the "Cura" from its name when recreational use of marijuana in NY State is legalized in a year or two? Just wondering.
Also wondering why it was just too hard apparently to fill Restaurant Row again with, uh, I don't know... maybe restaurants?

  1. One of those places would have been perfect for Boulangerie to expand to. I'm sure they could manage the higher rent with all the business they do. They seem determined to hold on in that small space but it's not a pleasant experience anymore unless you go at a completely off hour- like 4pm or so. Forget the mornings altogether. They're food is so good, they should totally be on the so called 'Restaurant Row'

  2. With the amount of ovens they require and prep space for baking, I don't see moving to be an easy proposition for La Boulangerie. Rent aside, it would not be an inexpensive move, and personally, I think it is smart of them to not uproot themselves. Quickest way for a restaurant to bury themselves is by over-expanding. Potentially, what they perhaps can consider is opening a take-out only storefront, in addition to what they currently have.

  3. Yes, the takeout only storefront isn't a bad idea. I think most of us would agree they need some kind of expansion.

  4. I was just in there today and thinking more about the take-out store front. With that new building going up right next door, it would be the perfect time for them to consider that. Wonder if Francois reads this thread? ;)

    1. Great idea for the store front- they just bring the fresh items right over each morning!

  5. If the laws change, CuraLeaf should keep its name. After all, its products will cura your boredom.

  6. Ugh. Typical. Of course actual restaurants - of ANY type! - would've been better, but I guess that thought is too logical for FoHi.

Any news about the Vanilla Sky space? (I'm almost afraid to ask.)

  7. My understanding is that the Vanilla Sky space is going to be a Mediterranean restaurant. As for the non-food businesses opening up on that street, it has been YEARS since the steak restaurant at the end of that strip closed. No one has rushed to open up in that location. Better to have something there than to continue to let the space sit empty.
