March Madness Nor' Easter of 2018

Some pics from yesterday's storm. I think this storm will be most memorable for how any signs of it are so quickly disappearing. These late-season Nor' Easters are a little sad, as if Old Man Winter is trying to hold on a bit longer, but we all know he's passed his prime :)

Nor'easter Photos

Not the most picturesque of snowstorms, and a huge disappointment when compared to all the blizzard hype, but I just couldn't let a nice Nor'easter go by without giving it at least a little coverage on the blog. Yesterday's storm will be remembered as one of the sleetiest (is that a word?) storms I can remember. We must've had at least a few hours here in Forest Hills of nonstop sleet. The result must be especially aggravating to car owners! It sure makes it tough to just get across the street!

Bareburger Forest Hills

Due to the storm, Bareburger Forest Hills tells me they will be opening tomorrow (Thursday, 2/13/14) at 4:30pm.

On a brighter note, for Valentine's day (this Friday, 2/14/14) Bareburger Forest Hills will be offering its Rose wine as a special. The bottle will be available for purchase for dine-in guests for only $15. Wine info: Domaine Bousquet Rose 2012.

A Different Kind of Snow

I don't know if you noticed, but it seemed to me that Monday's snowstorm had a different feel to it. It didn't seem as harsh as last month's storm. Instead, it transformed Forest Hills and other parts of the city into a gentler winter wonderland. It probably was because it was a warmer snow, which made it stick to trees, and some other familiar things around the city, coating them with a layer of white that took a little of the typical edge off the city.

Talk Amongst Yourselves

As I slowly recuperate from the "cold from hell," I invite you all to talk amongst yourselves about whatever is on your minds (except the high rents landlords are charging local businesses on Austin St., overpriced slices of cake and new condos you don't find attractive enough to spend $600,000 on.) Otherwise, the floor is all yours until I can manage to sleep more than half an hour at a time without being awoken by another round of coughing.

Oh, and enjoy the snow! Or, if you have to drive or wait for the bus during it, hate the snow! I feel your pain!

By the way, word is that a storm forecast for this weekend may be a Biggie, but of course it's still too soon to know for sure.

Storm Scenes

It's the first rule of surviving Nor'Easters—always be prepared with a burrito close by. I awoke to realize I wasn't so I had to venture out into the maelstrom.

Actually, I found aside from it being a little slippery here and there, and being blocked by a little mini-drift from time-to-time, this storm isn't that bad compared to others we've had. The wind isn't that strong so it didn't feel that cold—at least that's the way it was when I was out in it this afternoon. But it's supposed to get worse as the day goes on...

The Lindsay Scenario?

At least one major meteorologist is now comparing the scenario unfolding with tomorrow's storm with the Sunday, February 9, 1969 storm, the one that tarnished Mayor Lindsay's reputation forever. The idea is that the changeover to rain that is being widely predicted for the NYC area, thus keeping accumulations down, will never occur. The result is we could get upwards of two feet of snow. This is just one prediction, mind you. However... here is the latest snowfall map from one of the weather models, hinting that this storm now taking shape is starting to zero in on the NYC area.
