New Poll

I haven't done a poll in a long time. Here's a timely one. I am thinking we'll probably find out about this in the next week or two, so while we're all guessing:

Poll Results

Here are the results so far from the August 14th poll that asked: "What do you dislike most about living in Forest Hills?"

216 people responded

1. The Supermarkets (47 votes)
2. Not enough fun stuff to do (45 votes)
3. Not enough good restaurants (40)
4. Queens Blvd. (32)
5. Not enough good take-out places (24)
6. The Shopping (14)
7. Other (14)

Hmmm, looking these over it occurred to me that a Whole Foods where the stalled construction site is on the north side of Queens Blvd. near something called a "Key Food" would solve most of these complaints, wouldn't it? Are you reading this Mr. Whole Foods? This is just a small, rinky dink blog so you can assume there's like another 10,000 non-voters living in Forest Hills for every vote in my poll. You do the math!

And here are the write-in responses:

Other Answers

Not enough coffee shops or cafes for writerss

I had to just remove one racist answer - not bad!! Keep it up guys!

New Poll

It's a muggy, cloudy day, and they even expect big thunderstorms! Just the type of day to take out all of your frustrations on a new poll! Hooray! And a new poll with a decidedly uncharacteristically negative tone to it! All you poo-pooers will just love it! Enjoy!

New Poll

It's been a rather slow and dreary start to 2012 here in Forest Hills, hasn't it? Nothing new has opened in a while. But, there certainly is a lot in the works, as you can see by my poll below. If none of these gets you excited, well, then there are always the new elevators in our subway station.

But seriously, if you are feeling a little blue thanks to the miserable, basically snowless winter we've been having, well here are a few things you can do around the neighborhood to cheer yourself up:

  • Visit Emily's Sugar Rush on Austin. Have you been to our neighborhood candy story lately? This place is awesome. It is now busting at the seams with stuff. It has grown into a really cool store. (They even now have Fruit Stripe Gum, my suggestion from way back thank you very much.)
  • Grab a coffee and a pastry at La Boulangerie. Just soaking up the atmosphere at this adorable new place can get you in a great mood.
  • Go Greek at Agora. I just had their New England clam chowder the other night. Quite good if I must say so myself.
  • Grab a brownie at Brownies & Cream. Another new place on Austin with some delicious treats.
  • Oh, and just wait a week. I hear that by this time next week we might actually have a real winter snow on our hands. I know, how many times have you heard that this winter. But predictions have been all along for a major change to a snowier, wintry pattern in February. So all you snow lovers, get ready. :)

A Little Holiday Poll

Tennis Stadium Poll Results

Well, it looks like the Stadium Arts Alliance's plan to renovate the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, using it for major tennis matches, concerts, art exhibits and ice hockey, is proving the most popular choice as to what to do with the iconic landmark.

Here are the results of our latest poll so far.

  1. Ice skating during the winter and music events during the warm weather - 42
  2. A new Farmer's Market - 30
  3. Tennis again, or other sporting events - 16
  4. Demolish it to make room for new condos - 7
  5. A tennis museum - 5
  6. Other - 3
  7. A hotel - 2
Among the "Other" write-in choices were the rather creative: Bodega, Jail and Helipad. :)

You can still vote in the "Polls" section of the blog if you haven't already.

Dispersing Occupy Wall Street?

An interesting development today as the City says the protesters will no longer be allowed to use tents, sleeping bags or other equipment in the park where they have been encamped up until now. I don't see how they are going to be able to maintain their 24 hour vigil there without such equipment. I didn't know that the park is privately-owned, which is why these regulations can be enforced. So, it looks like they may have to move to a public location... maybe Battery Park?

Anyway, here's a story with all the info about this: NYC Protesters Wary of Park Cleanup Plan

And here's a new poll:

This Week's Poll

First, let's take a look at the results from our last poll, which was posted back on April 5th.

45 people voted in the poll which asked where your doctors are located...

The winner, probably as expected given the reputation of doctors there, was Manhattan, with 40% of the vote (18 votes)

Coming in second were people who said they went to doctors in both Queens and Manhattan, with 26.6% of the vote (12 votes)

Followed by just Queens, with 24.4% (11 votes)

Long Island 6.6%, with 3 votes

and Another NYC Borough 2.2%, with just 1 vote

Now on to this week's poll:
