Red Pipe's One-Year Anniversary
Forest Hills' only indie coffee shop is celebrating this week it's one-year anniversary. Yes, time flies. As a special gift to them, I am taking the liberty of posting their new menu, which I grabbed from their Facebook Page. I truly hope they don't mind.
Oh, and I see they give yours truly a little shout out down there in the corner. Thanks guys!

Ben’s Best Kosher Delicatessen is delighted to host the book signing for local author, Michael H Perlman’s "Legendary Locals of Forest Hills and Rego Park," published by Arcadia Publishing. Released in 2015, this book provides a fantastic retelling of the neighborhood’s cultural development from its inception in 1652 (originally named Newton) to some of its most famous residents including Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach, Simon & Garfunkel and of course, The Original Ben’s Best Kosher Delicatessen.
Perlman will be joining us on Sunday, October 18th from 1-3pm for a luncheon reception featuring the launch of our newest culinary addition, The “Rego-Bark” hot-dog. The author will be available to sign original copies of his book and provide interesting quips and anecdotes of stories heard along the way, all while tasting a bit of Queens history.

Forest Hills Inn Tea Garden
A reader who went to their recent flea market sent me a photo of the t-shirt he picked up there...kinda cool...
He also mentioned that he overheard the organizers discussing some possible ideas to do with this lovely space. One thing they mentioned was possibly showing outdoor movies, he heard them say.
That's a nice idea, but I know some of the local residents aren't thrilled with the idea of using the space because of noise concerns. I had also heard that Jade was going to possibly use the space. But, so far, nothing is certain about the future of one of Forest Hills' most pleasant spots.

Tidying up Forest Hills
Some local residents have become quite vocal as of late about the dirty conditions in front of some of the restaurants and stores on Austin Street. Chipotle was one restaurant in particular that was called out for leaving trash that was leaking grease onto the sidewalk in front of its Austin Street location.
Below is an email from the chain that I was forwarded after a reader complained to them:
It's great to see local residents staying on top of things like this. The same reader who contacted Chipotle above also forwarded me this information below:

I'm sorry for the unpleasant sights outside of the store. I completely understand your frustration. I just called and spoke with our Apprentice General Manager, Chris, who has someone coming out as soon as possible, which is tomorrow early morning. We discussed having this taken care of on a more frequent basis so we can show a better appearance. Thank you for keeping us on our toes! This email was from a few weeks ago. I'll take a look to see if the situation in front of Chipotle has improved at all, if the sidewalk is now clean.
Sincerely,

It's great to see local residents staying on top of things like this. The same reader who contacted Chipotle above also forwarded me this information below:
I also spoke with my contact at the Doe Fund and although weed-pulling is not in the contract , I asked them to do me a one-time favor and start pulling all of the weeds from the tree pits all along Austin Street. They were happy to do it and started on Monday. I am an avid supporter of the Doe Fund. The job should be done in another week. Also, I spoke with Superintendent Riese of the DSNY District QW6 and asked why the QB medians weren’t being cleaned as they usually had been in late August and early September of past years. He called me yesterday to advise that a crew started working on it on Tuesday. They started at 63 Dr and are now working east. It’s a big job. That’s why I have begged Koslowitz over and over to start a Doe Fund program just for QB. It’s a no-brainer!!!

Some Competition for Forest Hills Stadium? Yes, word is that Coachella East, or something like it, may be giving our local music venue some strong competition next summer, taking over Flushing Meadows Corona Park for a multi-day festival. Another feather in the cap for our borough!
